Does anyone know the distance between the brackets for the hitch that Heartland mounts on the back of the our units for mounting a bike rack and such? I m pretty sure they are all the same. My unit is at the dealer for repairs so I don't have access to it. I am adapting an adjustable width Reese Towpower 88001 class II receiver hitch to fit on the back. The hitch is too narrow as is. The 2 inch square side pieces that slide into a fixed center section are the adjustable portions and will have to be extended to reach the brackets on the fifth wheel. I was thinking of using a pair of 2 inch receiver extensions. One for each side to add the necessary width. Then slide the 2 inch square tubes and mounting brackets that came with the hitch into those. By the way, I got the hitch for $80.00 which is why I am trying to modify it to work. Cheaper than having one welded on...I hope! If it doesn't work, I guess I have an extra hitch for sale. Thanks.
