Kudos to Camping World

I recently purchased (online) a ScanGaugeII for my truck from Camping World. After having it for a while, I found that it can not display the transmission fluid temp (no code for it) and the mpg readings were dubious. That and the device is just too busy and really doesn't provide any more useful information than my instrument panel and DIC. So I contacted CW about returning it, without the original packaging and they took it back for a full refund.

no Kudos from me

I had the exact opposite with my local camping world - and I will never go back because of it.

Last August and September I bought several items. 3 cyclone vents, 4 door handle push bars, some power cord ends and a few other miscellaneous items.
Could only get two of the vents on the roof and was only able to use two of the handles.
And the other items were also extras purchased for projects. Nothing was removed from the original packaging.

I needed something else and gathered up my items and headed off, didn’t bother to look for receipts.

They found all the items in my history. Some were a few days older then the 90 days and some were about a month older. Of course they have a 90 day return and the cashier refused.
Get your supervisor – she refused.
Get your store manger, he refused.

I explained that these were all bought during camping season when we were busy camping and now we weren’t - no dice.
I had them look up my history with camping world. Turns out I have spent more then a $800-$1200 a year since we bought our first camper. No dice

I explained tht I wasn’t looking for my money back, just a store credit, which I would probably use before I left the store, still no give.

Getting a little ornery, I quietly explained to the store manager that if I could not get a credit for common items that are currently on the shelf that when I walk out the door I would never come back. In his arrogance he told me fine, you’ll be back when you need something.

I left him with this statement;
“there is nothing in this store that I cannot get cheaper and without leaving my desk through either ebay or Amazon, and being an Amazon Prime member means no tax and almost always no shipping, and I can get stuff you typically don’t have”.

Many of the “I need it now” items they sell are available at West Marine, and I have a commercial account there.

He said “fine”.

I don’t know who is more wrong – but I will not step foot in another camping world.

Re: no Kudos from me

My order and request for refund was all handled online and by e-mail (there is no CW near me). Don't know if that makes a difference on ease of dealing with it or not. I looked at a couple of sites for the SGII and they were the best price, overall.

As a caveat on the SGII, it may well be the perfect device for Fords and Dodges, which seem to need upgrades anyways (ouch, a slam he makes!). But for a GMC with a 6-spd. Allison, not so much.

My 06 Dmax had a trans temp gauge, no longer the case?

I had the Banks tuner with the PDA, that had just about every readout I could think of, including a trans temp.

No guage on my '09, you have to toggle through the DIC display to see it. I would have liked to have a constant display of it and left the DIC on odometer/outside temp/compass while driving. MPG is displayed on the DIC, and can be reset on the fly to get actual driving values, not a composite average. It sounded like a neat idea, so I got to try it for free. Although it can display OBDII codes, it's an expensive way to do it. And without the code listing and a layman's description, they're meaningless to me.

Re: no Kudos from me

I purchased a Scan Gauge for my former 1500 Silverado which did not provide me with a transmission gauge.

My present 2500 Silverado does provide me with a transmission temperature but I use the Scan Guage to provide me with 4 other constant readouts.

My only disappointment is that it will not provide me with an instantaneous Torque reading. The instant Horsepower and throttle % readings however are kind of interesting when going thru mountain passes.

Most interesting however is the instantaneous gas mileage readout. It has certainly taught me to keep the Allison in towhaul mode when it would otherwise stay in 6th gear. I can tell you that lower rpms do not necessarily mean you are achieving higher mpg. What happens is the throttle reading increases when shifting from 5th to 6th when maintaining the same speed and the increased delivery of fuel completely offsets the lower rpms.

Re: no Kudos from me

I have been using the Scangauge II for 4 years and its the best equipment I have installed on my truck. There are over 50 Xgauges that are programable and I have 24 of them on my unit now. The Transmission temperature Gauge is usualy a Programable XGauge. Camping World and Autozone do sell them but no one is able to produce any Info about them. Linear Logic is way ahead of their time on these gauges and every other gauges available from the ODBII port is trailing behind including CTS models. We have asked for gauges for the 6.0L Ford Diesels and they provided all the available gauges already available for the engine over 59 XGauges are documented. Just finding bad fueling locations have payed for my gauge.

PS.
The Scangauge has helped me do 14MPusG with my truck and RV on the last trip from Florida to Myrtle Beach where I am parked at now. No way would I have accomplished that feat unless I observed the performance of my truck closely with the scangauge.
