New to RVing and just bought a 32 BUDS...did we bight off more than we can chew?

Brand new to RVing and just bought a new 2014 32BUDS. After a lot of research, we settled on the Northtrail, but bought a little bigger than we had planned. Family of 4 with 2 small kids, (8 and 7) but vision a lot of friends coming with us.

While we are a hard working, practical, hands on kind of family..this is A LOT of trailer! The dealer has a Camping School, and we are sure they will do a great job teaching us the basics..but we are worried we jumped in the deep end a little too soon!

Any thoughts will be appreciated!

Congratulations on the new trailer and welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum.

If you haven't already picked up the trailer, let me suggest that you have someone video the walk through where the dealer explains how to use all the features of the trailer. It's a lot to absorb. Watching the video will refresh your memory.

There's a great bunch of friendly and helpful people here, so don't hesitate to ask questions. You'll get lots of help.

The forum also has a pretty good search function. Sometimes the easiest way to find the answer is to see if someone else has had the same question.

We also have a collection of owner-written User Guides and Troubleshooting Guides. They complement the generic trailer manual and appliance manuals that you get with the trailer and will give you lots of help. They're located in the manuals section of the forum, which you can get to from this link, or by clicking on the TOOLS tab at top of page and selecting HOM - Heartland Owners Manuals, or HUG - Heartland User Guides.

We went from nothing to a 35 foot 5th wheel, then jumped up to 38 feet. Just practice backing, watch your turning radius, and check your weights. Having a truck capable of handling what it's towing is critical. Also get a quality hitch and equalizers.

Its NOT too much trailer. It's just right. Space required by kids increases exponentially with age.

Trust me, after a few times out. You will be glad you have the room. It's easy to camp when the weather is nice. Tons of stuff to do outside. Let it rain all day......you will be glad to have the space for the family to hang out.

This is our 7th trailer. Pop-ups, hybrids and travel trailers. Finally, a 42' fifth wheel. We have some room to roam on those rainy days.

Thanks for all the replies and info! We are towing with a 2013 Suburban, and will have it rigged out to haul. Been pulling a large boat for many years, but this takes it up a bit! Great idea to video the orientation, at least the tricky parts!

We are excited, can't wait to get out camping!

We went from nothing to a 31BDSS North trail. My NT tows easily and compared to the small sailboats, 12' box and utility trailers and the pop trailer a friend has, backing the big NT is usually the easiest of them all.

Watch your load weights, take your time and towing the NT will be nearly as easy as driving your truck empty.

The extra space you think you have now with your kids will quickly be barely enough in just a couple of years.
