Oven Fire

Has anyone had a problem with electrical fires out of the stove top when not in use or the fire alarm not going off during the fire

Looking at your oven, that is quite serious, I have a 1987 Mallard Travel Trailer and working on the exterior right now too repair those issues, what year and model is this Travel Trailer fire from? So I am wondering about my stove top and small oven on my Mallard, when I start to work on/go through the propane systems...good luck with your repairs...Scott, go Lions.

I can’t address the oven, but as for the smoke detector, what’s the manufactured date and when did you last change the battery? Unless it’s one of the more recent models with a built in LiH battery, they need to be changed at least annually.

Unless the oven fire generated a fair amount of smoke, a simple smoke detector mounted on the ceiling some distance away would be late to pick it up and activate.

This might be motivation to also replace the rather small fire extinguisher supplied with the rig (mine was/is mounted at the entrance door) with as large a fire extinguisher you can accommodate, and move the originally installed smaller one to right next to the stovetop. I also have a $200+ SELF DEPLOYING HALON extinguisher in the propane refrigerator outside compartment to snuff out any possible RV refrigerator fires.

My smoke detector tends to go off too often, but I have added a large head sheet metal screw that I can turn with my fingers to the turn and drop detector mounting from the ceiling. When the smoke detector screams off, I can get it down and face down on the carpet pretty quickly.

When we had our 3670, the OEM detector above the steps would go off when we used the toaster. Removed it and installed better units on the bedroom and living room ceilings. Added a CO detector under the island.
