I would like to start this thread for those that are affected by the hurricane Sandy so we will know how you are doing.

Are you alright. Have you had any damage. Post some photos of the area you are in.

Maybe a moderator will make this a stickey for a few days.

We hope you all are safe and in good health.

God be with you.

Yesterday was pretty scary !!! Today dawns with a stiff breeze and a bit of blowing rain. Being 30 miles or so inland of the shore we came through pretty much unscathed. House RV and vehicles all intact. Our thoughts go out to the folks who are in closer proximity to the water. Seeing images of the mess Sandy caused in the shore towns is downright frightening. Scars from this storm will remain for a long time to come. ED

Last night was terrifying! Winds over 90 mph. Took a ride home and everything looks good. It required a few detours to avoid down trees and power lines. We are heading back to school where we have the camper and gen. Everything is closed here. No gas, breakfast, or shopping of any kind. Not even a Wawa hoagie! Guess it will have to be a bowl of cereal.... Alive and grateful...

We were blessed in that the storm didn't do much damage here. We had winds and some rain but thank God not extensive. We did move our camper and truck up to our business(where there were a fewer trees than at our home)to avoid damage to it. So everything and most importantly everyone doing fine. We need to pray for all those affected from this storm, the damage for some has been devastating.

We feel for you. We know this drill far too well in New Orleans. I hope and pray all of our friends affected come out of this in good health. STUFF is just STUFF. Lives are what must be saved. Be safe, take care of one another. I hope that all of your services come back sooner than later. God speed.

Trees down fence damaged, no electric, no water, no cable - TV or Internet.

Portable 3K Honda will be running non stop for a week probably. But it isn't 240, so we also have no heat. Usually not a problem during hurricane outages.
This time is different.

You know how they always say fill your bathtub? Didn't do that. Got 1 1/2 five gallons bucket filled at the trickle rate before it stopped completely.

But the Cyclone was topped off and has about 120 gallons on board, empty holding tanks and about 80% propane.
Will probably move in later today.

We are less then 3 miles to the beach, can't get there though, which also means we can't get to the marina to check the boat.

Best friends 46' boat was picked up off dry dock last night and dumped sideways into the river.

Over 2 million just in jersey without power, and they are talking 7-10 days or more to restore.
Crews can't work on the sub stations due to flooding. Lineman can't work until the winds drop below 25 sustained.

We are fine. We are at the firehouse with the Bighorn. We are hooked up to a 20 amp outlet. Enough to let the firemen take a nice warm shower. Most homes here are on wells and with no power no water. These guys all volunteers, were clearing trees off the roads and power lines all night in 100mph winds. Letting them shower in the Bighorn is the least we could do.

I'm wondering how NYC will do in the following months? Most all of the workforce including the public services (police, fire, hospitals, etc.) commutes in via the trains and subways. 5 tunnels are flooded with saltwater and sand ( think of the sand deposits you have seen on TV in the shore cities). It may be a long, long time before NYC is back to "normal".

My family & I wish the best for those affected by this storm. Born & raised in South Florida, i'm always waiting for the next storm to creep up off the cost. If anyone needs anything from down here PM me. I'm not sure yet, but I may be sent up to NY to assist NYPD. I'm a LEO here in Florida and on the Emergency Recovery Team.

Once again best wishes

Ivan

We're about 35 miles west of the jersey shore and weathered the storm fairly well. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the ones not as fortunate. If there is anything I can do for anybody send me a PM. I'm not that far away.

We fared well, although the state shoreline was beat up badly I'm on the highest point of an Island and suffered no damage. We never lost electricity or phone and we have city water so we fared very very well. Have no cable but have the little govt. box and we are getting air-wave TV which is fine. Hess station has no fuel didn't check two Shell stations. Cox Cable and Phone are down across the whole island, Verizon is up and running, someone needs to explain that to me. Downtown is right on the harbor so many of the water side small business were flooded by the moon tide and water surge which happened around 8PM.
Nothing we have here approaches the devastation in New Jersey or New York. God Bless those folks they have my prayers!

It is great to hear that many are doing well. Hoping that in the next few days that others can say the same. Looking forward to any good news. Bad news is welcome but we are praying for both.

Thanks for posting

Another quiet day in the neighborhood, except for the constant drone of generators, chainsaws, leaf blowers and wood chippers
