Slide out issue - RESOLVED

Slide out refused to come out using the power button was getting a ( tat, tat, tat)...so decided to use the manual jack, turned a few rounds anticlickwise but then heard a loud tap..now the motor turns freely but the slide out does not move...

Any help to fix this would be apprecaited.

Also is is safe for me to drive with this trailer, hoping the slide out does not comr out while transporting. I have not seen a lock inside for teh slide out unit.

Model: Heartland Trail RUnner 27 BHS.

Please and thanks to your replies.

Re: Slide out issue

It does sound like something broke. Could it be a shear pin that holds the drive gear to the motor? As far as the slide coming out when traveling, I'm not sure. I would find a way to get some heavy duty ratchet straps to keep the slide out from moving. Ernie

Re: Slide out issue

I don't know the mechanism used in your trailer, but it would be very dangerous to be driving down the road and have a slide come out; both for you and for others on the road.

Mobile service would be my first choice - get it fixed before going anywhere. If that's not possible, as was already suggested, strap it securely to keep it from moving.

Re: Slide out issue

To lock the slide, cut a 2x4 to a length to lay inside on top of the slide and to fit between the slide and wall. This would keep the slide from moving out. Some trailers have rods with rubber tips on them just for this purpose.

Is your TR still in warranty? If it is, call HL with your VIN# and they may authorize a repair at a dealer or repair shop close to you. I "think" that the slides have more than a 1 year warranty.

Re: Slide out issue

Thanks Guys, got an retired RV tech to look at it as 'Big H ' thought it was t the slide out shaft Pin, said he has to straighten stuff in and had to remove the manual over ride shaft as it was the cluprit.. Paid $400 but have it fixed.

Re: Slide out issue

Glad you got it fixed. Threads usually stop getting additional comments not too long after a problem is resolved. Then they die of old age.
