Slide toppers

While listening at a seminar at the FL Rv show, one of the speakers mentioned something about protecting the leading edge of the slide toppers from the wind while traveling. He said (if I understood him correctly) that the edges were not trimmed and could be damaged i.e. they were just the rough cut material. He further said that some one told him that they finished the edge with tape or something to protect that edge. Does anyone have any thoughts or comments on this ?

thanks

When traveling, my slide toppers are rolled up pretty tightly. I don't think there's a wind issue. If there were, we'd see torn leading edges as a common occurrence. It's not.

I did have a problem with the end tearing on one. It was the trailing edge on the longest slide, at close to 4 years old. My toppers got a lot of extra wear and tear from winter camping with snow and ice buildups, which probably had more to do with the tear than anything else.

I may be mistaken, but I think the edges are folded and stitched. Or is that just the awnings?

My Dometic slide toppers on my BH are not folded over and stitched.

Actually, now that I think about it, they held up pretty good when I was tooling down the Interstate with the bedroom slide all the way out.
