SOLVED: Landing Gear Stopped Working

Hi. We are new to rv'ing and after 3 years of shopping bought heartland gateway 3900se. Got problem with front electric landing gear when we just got home from first trip. Worked fine since pickup on April 30th. Had to use crank to unhook from truck. Is there a fuse some where I cannot find. No reason for it to quit unless the deluge of rain. Open to any ideas to look at.thanks

Hi tinsoldier,

Congratulations on the new Gateway and welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum.

There are quite a few owners with front landing gear experience and I'm sure you'll get some feedback shortly.

Are your batteries fully charged?

Hi Tinsoldier,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum and to the family. We have a great bunch of folks here with lots of information and all willing to share their knowledge when needed.

Check for a fuse in the wiring near the switch, if nothing there, look near the battery for aprox 10ga wire with fuse holder in it,, if nothing there, look at the row of little breakers, usually covered with red rubber cover, and feel for a little reset button on one of them. If when you retracted after loading up and got just a little to far and bottomed out you may have blown a fuse or tripped breaker. Let us know what you find.

Be sure and check out our Heartland Owners Club. Join us at a rally when you can and meet lots of the great folks here and make friends for a lifetime.

Enjoy the forum and your new unit.

The most common problem is running the gear up toooo far and not letting go of the switch. Blows the fuse everytime. When you fix the issue....mark the land gear 2-3" down from fully retracted/up and never raise it up past that point. BTW, just so you not having to buy fuses again.....install a circuit breaker instead. Take the fuse with you and get a matching circuit breaker. Any auto parts store has them.

Thanks for letting us know what the problem was. And like Bob said, you might mark the leg about 2" or so from bottoming out.
