tri glide owners

Boy, you guys really have me worried. I'm suppose to get the tri-glide added at the Rally, but after reading these posts, I'm not so sure. I'd like to have the tri-glide hauling benefits of greatly reduced chucking but I'm worried about the truck bed clearance issues you all are talking about.

I have the B&W Companion hitch in my F-450, but I would have it with me at the rally. I'm bringing my bike so the 5er will be hooked up to my tow buddy behind the truck and not in the bed of the truck.

Is there anyway I can ensure the tri-glide will be set, height wise, to the exact same measurement as my current pin box is? If I can do that, then I won't have a clearance issue when I go back to the B&W later. I probably switch 3 or 4 times a year between the B&W in the bed of the truck to the tow-buddy behind the truck. Just don't want to have an issue.

Same goes for me. I'd gladly pay for the tri-glide if I knew it wouldn't change the clearance on my rig. I have a superglide and an 03 Chevy pulling my big horn. If I had any less clearance, the trailer might hit the bed cover rails backing into my driveway.

Keith, We just had the Tri-Glide installed the Monday after Easter. We had good clearance on the bed rails and had to lower our DrawTite Hitch in order to get lower on the nose for a level ride. We still have very good clearance on the truck rails. Hope this helps you. Additionally, I will say there is no comparison in the towing before and after the installation! What a smooth ride!

When I had the Tri-Glide installed on the GM with the Super Glide hitch I had no issues with clearance same height when finished.

For install and use with my '08 Silverado short box, the triglide went to the top hole on the Bighorn and the hitch was lowered to the bottom hole on the Curt Q5. I have good clearance over my toneau cover rails. Of course there is always terrain out there  that could produce an exclamation from the driver.

I had the long Tri Glide installed on my long bed GMC. The problem I had was with clearance with the back of the unit when at a 45+ degree turn. The back of the hitch was very close to the side rail. I trimmed off the back of the hitch to clear the side rail better.

I was told that the long Tri Glide was smoother running than the short Tri Glide, but check your clearance at a 45 degree turn.

I'am currently traveling and when the truck is hitched up to the horn on a level surface I measured the clearance from the trailer to the top of my bed rail. actually where my toneau cover is, it sits about an inch higher than the bed rail. Anyways, the clearance was roughly 6 1/2 inches. Hopefully I will be fine on clearance.

Thanks Debbie. At Southernnights suggestion, I'm going to measure the height of the hitch plate from the bed of the truck and then use that as a basis for where the tri-glide needs to be height wise. Especially since I won't have the hitch with me when they install the tri-glide. I have no clearance issues now and as long as the new unit is at the same height, I shouldn't have a issue when I switch back from my tow buddy to the hitch in the bed of the truck.
