I to have great experience with synthetic, but its not for better mileage, its the modified protection it provides. All my old collectibles have synthetic, it don't smoke and burn like conventional oil. You can put synthetic in a smoker and it will not smoke. Used it in my smoky lawn tractor for 10 years.
