Finally got my Onan 6500 wired into the gen prep and plumbed into the propane. Fired up and ran a load on it for about an hour and a half. Just need to get a tailpipe cut to fit our Gateway.

Added a strap to the truck bed to haul an extra tank of propane, or to haul propane tank for refill.

We tried ratchet straps and various other ways of securing a tank that weren't easy and fast. This works great!

Is there an easy way to detach the strap from the bed wall of the truck, or is the strap in the truck permanently? I really like the idea, but don't want to always have a tank of propane in the truck or the strap just hanging there.

I moved into the Prowler today...

Parked next to the house for a few days while it is shown.

Tomorrow (Monday) is the first day of showings and right now have 16 appointments for tomorrow alone.

Wow, 16 appts. is great hope you have the same luck I did, got a contract the first day for 5K above asking, rejected it, and got 5 more contracts the second day, one of which was for 17.5K above asking from a very well qualified buyer which I accepted and that house was history. Good luck.

Already had a sneaky realtor slide in on Saturday while I was in the house cleaning, so I let them look (I probably shouldn't as she claimed they had an appontment even though the house wasn't to be live until today), and they made an offer $10G's over the asking price, but made their offer contingent on us accepting before 8PM last night!

Needless to say I rejected their offer . . .

Is there an easy way to detach the strap from the bed wall of the truck, or is the strap in the truck permanently? I really like the idea, but don't want to always have a tank of propane in the truck or the strap just hanging there.

It's held to the bed of the truck with metal screws. I guess you could remove it. The strap is just like the one in your propane compartment, pretty stiff. Latched, with no tank, just makes a "circle" standing out from the wall of the bed.

One word of warning, it does not hold super tight against the tank. When traveling with it, it's still a good idea to have a bungee cord on it to keep from bouncing, but this does keep the tank upright and somewhat more secure from the casual thief.

On our Big Horn the straps for the propane tanks also had a not so tight fit. I purchased thin closed cell door insulation with sticky strip on one side. I lined the inside of the straps with it. The rubber compresses easily and takes up all the slack. The bottle will not bounce or move.

I had the same problem even with LEDs and had it several years ago on SOB too. I recently switched out to smaller LEDs which are fine since there are so many other lights in the area and the replacement switch is not showing any signs of heating up.

I’m gonna have to do that.

Last night was my second night living in the Prowler and went through one 30lb tank in roughly 28 hours with the deep freeze we just had.

Got the four campin’ kitties and have to keep them cozy or they’ll make life miserable for me . . .

So yesterday morning I had to run and get that tank filled again as my work schedule wouldn’t allow me to get it done any other time until tomorrow.

I’m going to get a third tank . . . probably a 40lb’er that I can just set on the ground and hookup as a backup tank.

We have 3 30# that we cycle through as needed. Got 1 tank of propane Monday, other tank had about 60%. Well, used that 60% up and full tank is down to 60% today. Temps Monday plummeted into the 20s overnight and did not get above freezing yesterday. It's 12 this AM. I know, not super cold for northerners, but for Texans, that's cold!

Getting more propane today!

Thanks Bob. We’ll definitely keep an eye (and an infrared thermometer) on all the switches in the panel. I replaced all the ceiling lights with LED and so far so good. About 2/3 of the incandescent bulbs were some shade of black. A little scary considering all the times we have left the lights on in the camper.

Marked the flooring with painters tape to identify the 13 spots the vinyl flooring is blistering. Heartland has agreed to replace it completely. Taking it in to dealer on the 29th a two day process. We'll see.

John, we did try the milk crate a few years, even ratchet strapped in, it moved on our trips from Texas to Colorado. And the only place to do so was toward the tailgate, which made me nervous the pin box would hit on a turn.

Our park is rutted so bad, it would easily bounce around. Streets in Cisco are also gravel, and/or full of potholes.

This way the bottle ain't going anywhere, is safely away from getting hit by anything, harder to steal since you'd have to get up into the bed to do so, and takes 2 seconds to secure it.

We rarely use our truck bed for anything big enough to need to move the strap. If we need to, it's just two screws.

With our situation, I only do that to get one filled, then it goes back in the cabinet. I use a bungee cord to keep it from sliding around. I don’t have extra tanks other than a 20lb. for the grill.
