wheel bearing dust covers

I just picked up my new Gateway a few weeks ago and one of the first things I did when I got it home was grease the wheel bearings. As I was doing this I noticed that one of the axle dust caps and rubber plug was not on the axle and grease was coming out. There is no way for it to fall out because of the wheels center cap which goes into the wheel from the back. It had to be left off from the factory and somehow the person who bolted on the wheels didn't notice or didn't care. The quality control on these rigs is not the best.

I guess I never posted the photo of the repaired hub . . .

First shot is at the Camping World in Flagstaff, AZ . . . second shot same wheel after repair:

I bet that the service man at CW just looked at the other wheel since the op asked for a cap. I am sure he did that as a favour and had other preoccupation. Usually service managers are trained to look for problems and bring work to the shop. Maybe his shop was very busy and he was not looking for work.
Here I definitely place the blame on the op and the service man observation was the cap on the already capped wheel. I could have done the same if I was busy and not looking for more work. So owners beware, you need to vigilant.

They weren't busy . . .

Matter of fact, I was the only customer in the store and they were all just standing around when I walked in . . . and no work was going on in the service bay.

By the way . . . I should mention that I stopped there for more than just a hubcap . . . but to have my spare tire swapped rim for rim with one on the trailer, but this Camping World didn't do tires, so they sent me down the road to a truck shop.

Wish I hadn't put that new hub cap on because I'm sure the truck shop would have seen that exposed wheel bearing and would have said something.
