Where should we go first?

Hi Bighorn owners! We begin our new journey into full-time RVing around the 2nd week in August. We are new to this wonderful new life and have had only 4 short trips. Come August we pull up roots and take to the road. We will be leaving the mountains of North Carolina and working our way north or north east. By winter we would want to be back to warmer climes like Savannah, Charleston, Pensacola or somewhere like that. Where would your first destination be? Also, we are retired Navy and are able to take advantage of Military RV Campgrounds.

Looking forward to your ideas.

Hi mthompson,

Congratulations on the move to full time RV'ing.

In August, you should head for the Colorado mountains or northern Michigan because it's going to be hot everywhere else.

If you are looking for a warmer climate for the winter you better locate below at least Fort Meyers or Fort Lauderdale FL. Make a stop in Nashville on your way, you won't regret it.

Congratulations on your new "condo on wheels". If you are heading north at the end of summer, Gettysburg is a wonder history place. The PA chapter is hosting their 2017 rally at a campground that we have stayed at and really like it Gettysburg Campground. There is a bus company that comes to the campground to pick up folks to head to Washington for a day trip.

Now if you are heading west - come to the GA and/or TN rallies. Both are in September. GA dates are 9-9/11-16 in Brunswick GA at Coastal GA RV Resort and TN is in Chattanooga at Holiday Travel Park, 9-23/25-16. Great way to meet other Heartland owners.

Come to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas for a fun-filled winter. Warm temps, good entertainment and great food.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I think we are going to head towards Niagara Falls then Maine and New Brunswick. We'll stay north as long as weather permits then head south. If anyone has recommendations for RV parks and other things to see and do in these areas, it would be appreciated.
