Just a though for anyone traveling from the VA MD area. This campground is 65 miles from the closest bridge into New Jersey. Take a look at a map to see the location.
Clermont is only 18 miles or so from the Cape May Lewes ferry. So if you are coming up from the coast you may want to consider the ferry ride.

We stopped at Cape Henolopen State Park in Delaware coming back from Hatteras. Water only and $32 a night, but there were only about 10 campers in the entire park, and most of those were tenter's!
This state park is only 5 minutes form the ferry.

The ferry trip was $80, $70 for the truck, trailer and driver, $10 for each passenger. No charge for the dogs or parrot.
It is a nice ride across Delaware Bay and if you have been traveling a 1.5 hour break.

$80 isn't cheap but the distance to go around and then south to Avalon is about an extra 100 miles, plus all the tolls in MD, DE and PA. Typically there are no tolls to get into New Jersey but you have to pay to get out (still haven't figured that out)

OK Duane, got that avatar changed. Just one question, Why? (Your Deb made me do that, sorry!)

Info for everybody:
There is a county wide "Firewood Transportation Ban" for Cape May County. Firewood for our rally will be delivered from within the county so as to avoid any possible fines associated with the ban. At Avalon's request please don't bring any firewood to the campground.

I can vouch for the forestation problems as there are dead and falling trees all over at home.

At Sea Pirate last year we followed their ban, and bought firewood from the campground. Inside was a tag from the Arizona company from where it was shipped ........ go figure.

Duane,

I can't speak for anywhere else but we are experiencing a great deal of problems in Southern Ocean County as well. I am going to try to get some pics as it is just awful.

I don't understand the Arizona thing but can surely understand the problem.

Thanks for the information about the ferry - have to think about that. We are driving from Roanoke, VA
and have been trying to decide on the best travel plan. Does anyone know the best route from Annapolis
to Lewes? Looks like it is a straight shot via 50 - 404 - 9. Are they good roads? Easy for RV's to travel?
Thanks for the help.

Jim, 50 is a duel lane highway,404 is mixed single and duel lanes, and I think that 9 is single lane but all are good roads just watch the speed limits going thru the small towns.

Hi Calvin,
Rt 50 is normal four lane, 404 is 2 lanes but not bad. Traffic on weekends is tough but during the week not real bad. Just follow the Ferry signs. Used it all the time when I was working, see you in Avalon.

Jim B we had some rain yesterday so the pollen on the Landmark may have taken care of itself! Here's hopin'! We will try to get down there this afternoon for a check on things.

hi Bill & Calvin,
appreciate the driving info. I know traffic could be an issue, but any idea about the drive time from
Annapolis to the ferry site? We plan to take the 2:45 ferry on Thursday and know we have to be at the
dock by 1:30.
thanks again. see you later this week ...

Hi all....oh the ferry is fun....we haven't taken the Big Horn over on it but will take it leaving the rally...we are going to leave the BH in my sister-in-laws' driveway in Lewes...we will be heading down there again the following Thursday so we can head out to Chicoteague for the holiday w/e. Make sure you make reservations for the ferry...we are doing that tomorrow. Staying at the Maddox CG in Chicoteague in case anyone wanted to know. This will be our 5th year down there and love it there...

Really looking forward to the rally next week!!! It'll be so nice to see everyone again! We are going to sit down with the GPS and directions from the Harrisburg area....Deb, any suggestions for us?

Hi Cheryl,

Bill40 would probably be your guy for assistance on this one. I really don't know much about PA Highways.

Once you have determined which bridge you will cross I can surely help you from there.

I would think about 2 hours from the Annapolis Bay Bridge it's about 100 miles.

Jim, it is about 90 miles and about 2-21/2 hours driving time Trafic should not be a problem at the time you are talking about .
