Pat and I will be arriving early on the 1st as we are only 60 miles away. I would be interested in golf.
Also both of us are retired John Deere management and can promise you the tours are very informative and interesting.

Jerry is also interested in the JD tour and prefers the 10:00 am time.

Golf can be either 9-30 or 10-1. I was thinking of a 10am tee time since things have a tendency to be damp early in the morning. Amana Colonies is the closest course and is $42 unless I can talk to them into some kind of discount or I can get one on golf now. Let me know what you think. See you in Amana

We might have some potential Heartland buyers (S.O.B's) that would like to join us at the rally. What festivities will they be "permitted" to join in on ??? We'd like to show them what the "Heartland family" is all about, especially at a rally.

Hi Jim,

Great question, thanks for asking. I'll take it on. This reply is for you but also for anyone curious.

The primary activity of the Heartland Owners Club is putting on rallies. There are 3 main types:
1. Chapter Rallies
2. Regional Rallies
3. National Rallies (US+Canada)

We're okay (with Chapter Leader approval) with SOBs coming to Chapter Rallies so long as:
1. By allowing them to attend, no Heartland owners is being held from attending
2. They pay the rally fee (usually $20)
3. SOB rig count is kept under 20% of total rig count

We generally prefer to have only Heartland owners attending Regional and National Rallies. Minor exceptions have been made and the scenario you describe is one that has come up in the past. An owner of another brand is interested in possibly buying a Heartland and wants to "hang out" with real owners to get the low down and sort of check us and the product out.

In cases where I personally have made an exception, I allowed an SOB or non-RV owner to check us out but not attend anything I had to pay for or was otherwise sponsored.

In the case of a Regional Rally, using the Central Region Rally as an example, the club (i.e. my budget) covers costs for:
- Rally T-Shirts
- Door Prizes
- Tickets to Oktoberfest
- Dinner at the Ronneburg
- Breakfast
- Dealer provided meals
- Other things I'm not remembering past midnight tonight :)

The club has budgeted and will likely spend about $120 per rig for the rally. Heartland covers this cost. For this reason, we try to hold Region and National rallies for Heartland owners/club members.

This all said, we know when SOBs hang out with us, that we infect them with Heartland spirit and they end up wanting to be a part of that. I'm okay with your SOB/Heartland wannabes staying at the same campground to hang out with us at all informal activities. Should they wish to have fun at Oktoberfest, they can buy tickets on their own at the campground office. Should they wish to join us at the Ronneburg, they may be seated with you, but order and pay separately (we have a negotiated discounted rate for our group). We would not receive a Rally Bag, T-Shirts, Door Prize Tickets etc.

Tell them to make their reservations and we'll work out other details when we meet them and rally attendees give them their pre-Heartland initiation :)

Thanks again for asking Jim - great question.

Thanks Jim.......that was a superlative explanation not only to my question about SOB's, but also the factory commitment.
It also goes with out saying, the commitment of the club president (you) and all the local and regional chapter leaders that spend countless (non-paid) hours organizing a memorable experience for the club members.
It's perfectly understandable the reasons to balance SOB participation at rallies while trying to welcome prospective Heartland owners into a wonderful organization. It's also important to realize what goes into making a rally as far as cost and volunteer time instead of just showing up and taking things for granted. Looking forward to another GREAT rally!!!!

I have no problem with SOB's coming to our rallies. The thing that aggravates the holly molly out of me is when the same ones come over and over. If you want to hang out at our rallies so bad that you come over and over, then by a Heartland. And that's my opinion.

The Hershberger's have arrived! Bernie kept showing up where ever we stopped on the way to Amana. Bernie and I will watch the "Fort" until the rest of you arrive. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it!

My problem if I could be there is...who in the devil are going to keep the two of you in check? No matter how much they have tried, Carol & Judy haven't been able to control you!!!
