The same wheels pretty much work on 1/2 or 9/16 studs. When you go on up to 5/8" and larger then you have to be careful of having the correct wheel. Best place to get hardened replacement lug nuts is on line.
If you aren't operating in extremely hot or dusty conditions there is no reason what so ever not to extend the oil changes. Some of our JD equipment is rated at 500 hours now. We always run the trucks at higher mileage oil changes unless they run mostly on gravel or dirt. done this for the past...
Don't be afraid to go over the 120 and push it up to 130-140 foot pounds. I have found with alloy wheels they tend to loosen at the lower values but rarely do when torqued a bit tighter. I torque the 9/16 on the pickups to the factory rated value of 150-160 base on which truck and the type...
The fact that many if not most folks do have some type protection does help deter would be robbers and muggers. Having your 44 along when in the outback is something most of us do and has to again help keep some one from making a poor decision. There is a reason that the serious crime rates are...
The Lippert supplied equipment is the standard that all the light weight spring folks use. You will find the same thing in all the supply stores. It is much better to upgrade to the heavy duty wet conversions out there. Might be time to upgrade the springs as well.
Most if not all of the Landmarks are 4-10 as well. You don't want to close off any vents other than the bath and bedroom to keep adequate air movement.
We use a full small bottle about 450 mls. If you had 100 gallons of water that would give you about 3.5 ppm. You could safely use a larger amount but shouldn't be necessary. I would use about 1/2 that much bleach (5.25%) if I was sure the tanks contained 100 gallons or about.
A 24 inch or so breaker bar will usually star them so you can use a cordless impact. I rarely reuse them due to the lock nuts possibly backing off or the serrations not holding in the new shackle. Never have reused a bolt or nut on a critical axle. You don't want to over tighten them when...
I actually think we are on the same page. As in most things stay In the middle of the road and use moderation. The reason Chlorine is used widely in water systems is the ease of testing. Otherwise UV would have displaced it along with a lot more ozone machines. The big advantage of Halogen...
If the bolts still have the original diameter and the serrations are good so the bolt wont turn in the shackle then there is nothing wrong with this. I have only removed a couple over the years that were OK to use. Usually we replace them on the OEM stuff with the lube type bolts.
In the industry many have moved to Bromide in order to lower the effective Chlorine levels required for sanitization. This was driven due to the corrosive nature of chlorine to many products including copper or any red metal. Chlorine also causes imbrittlement in many plastics leading to line...
Good overview and I will add a couple of items. Chlorine will destroy a lot of things including your RO if the contact time is high as well as the concentration. Chlorine also attacks a lot of plastic/PVC/glue and so on in higher concentrations. Chlorine kills MB layer by layer whether in a...
I don't like the bleach smell/taste so about 25 years ago we started using hydrogen peroxide or peracetic acid. Works as well or better and you don't have all the other issues.
Doug, I dont disagree with you. We have had air brakes fail on trailers ( if the brakes are set properly and work as designed they should lock up) and the Tractor sure couldn't stop the load safely without the trailer brakes. Just a situation you dont want to be in. The truck towing ratings are...
Didn't really intend to start down this road. All I am saying is that you should have brakes on the trailer you are towing that will stop the trailer and its load on their own. In the event of a brake failure the TV will have to stop the load. When that happens you have a problem if you are in a...
We use Dyna Beads in all the tires that we consider critical. No problems of any kind and the only time there is an issue is if we have to repair one. Keep extra packs of beads for that occasion. Trucks, Trailers with 16" and larger tires all have them.
If the economy ever rebounds you can bet is it going up. With as many coal fired plants they are shutting down electricity is going up along with natural gas. We have been around $3.90 for the past several months in SC NE and NC KS. Unleaded has been about $3.29 or close to that.
There is something to what you ran into. I was ready to uninstall it several times before finally getting used to it and enjoying the benefits. Windows 7 IMHO is a very good system and unless you enjoy learning something new, stay with 7 as long as you can. Still running 7 on the laptop and DW's...
You really don't need the low ratio unless you are towing something heavier than a HL product. The new high torque diesels can handle the 3:55 just fine. All the lower ratio does is wear out your engine faster.
This could start a lot of discussion, we would say it is a lower cost truck and works for on road type service and if that works then that is great. Haven't bought one for a few years so maybe they are improved quite a bit, hope so.
Started with the Beta 8 about a year ago and upgraded to 8 Pro. It is much faster ( if you have a fairly high end computer ) and so is IE10. Takes a bit of getting used however. I like the active tiles and can keep up on a lot of things on one the start screen. It isn't for anyone that don't...
We charged many 6 volt batteries one at a time back in the day when all of our Diesel tractors were 12 volt with 2 6 volt batteries in series. Certainly better to charge both but it works to charge one as long as the other one isn't completely dead. JD changed some of the tractors to 24 volts...
The real key to towing heavier trailers/coaches is to make sure the brakes work as they should. That being they will stop the trailer weight with no help from the TV. After that if you are OK on the pin the amount of weight you are towing really isn't a problem. As far as Ford upgrades the...
Any tire shop that sells and services truck tires will have the HP valve stems. (both metal and rubber) If they just do car LT tires then you may run into what Gary did. We have never had an issue due to all the trucks out in the heartland using HD tires for the last 40 or so years. There are...
Best advice you can get. Safer trucks with more capacity and more fuel efficient. Get a F350 or equivalent properly equipped and you will never be sorry.
We had to install adjustable registers in the Bed/Bath due to the poor heat distribution. They have never been opened since and it is still to hot in the upper level when the furnace operates. I contacted Suburban about this with no results. Really need to look at the ducting off the heater and...
As I posted above we have towed some of the steepest roads and have no problems at all with the 6.7/3:55. If I were buying another tomorrow I would get the same thing. We had towed some of them with the 6.0/7.3 and this truck does it best even though the others had lower gear ratios.
