Pull Test, Tug Test or No Test?

We don't do the test. We have the B&W companion as well as the Blue Ox "catcher" that will catch the kingpin if the hitch isn't locked.

It will be great to meet you, Jim. We look forward to seeing you both in WA and OR.

Slides in or out when auto leveling?

We level first. It's easier and access to the middle jacks is easier in case we need to add a block.

    Standing on Slide

We had ours falling out. It wasn't easy to slide in the channel. What we did is put a hole in the rubber near the track and tied a string to it, then fed it in one end and my wife on the other end, pulling while I pushed. It worked well. We temporarily screwed the molding to the coach. Last...

How many of you are towing with a short bed truck?

We tow a 2014 Bighorn 3160 with our F350 short bed. Each of us did a small dent on a sharp turn (backing), but the claim is correct that you can get almost to 90 degrees without hitting the cab.

Filling water tank...when nowhere near city water

If you use a bladder tank, where did you fill it? If you used city water somewhere, why not use the same water to fill the fresh tank directly? Same weight.

    Heartland underepresented in the Northwest

Did my post come off as critical to Heartland? It shouldn't. I was referring to Fife RV service, which I like a lot. Heartland has been very good to deal with since we bought our trailer last year. Our warranty is about over. All in all, I love the Bighorn. It is perfect for our needs. We had AC...

    Heartland underepresented in the Northwest

James has been great with me. I go to Bonney Lake. James was at Gig Harbor, but when they closed that location, he took over at Bonney Lake. About two months ago, our bedroom slide wouldn't close. James sent a tech to our house. It turned out the cables were not adjusted correctly, and the...

Ours are still under the bed. Never opened them. Our warranty expires soon...guess we better see if they work.

    Electrical Question

The way the trailer uses the power is that all circuits are 125v only. While the 50 Amp service could supply 220/208, there are no 220 items in your Bighorn. When you attach the lower amp adapters, they just take the single pole and feed it to both sides of the 50 amp line. I use a 20amp 125v...

    Heartland Recall

According to the NHTSA, Heartland will announce on 2/16. We are a bit early. This is a new one on me.

    Heartland underepresented in the Northwest

I would be happy if it is Fife. Their service, while slow, is very good. The sales side isn't so good. It's strictly a "used car" sales approach. They're honest but shifty.

Standard Battery delivered with new Bighorns

The manufacturer doesn't supply a battery. I don't know of a deal from a RV dealer that doesn't include a battery. Ours is good one and when I traded my travel trailer in, I asked the service manager to install my 2nd battery (from the TT) in the new Bighorn. He said it was too small (schedule...

    Heartland underepresented in the Northwest

Who knows? Apparently negotiations have been going on regarding continued dealership and service. It is about time that we get good Heartland representation here. When we had our trailer in for its warranty service this fall, the service facility yard was full of Bighorns. I was very surprised...

    Heartland underepresented in the Northwest

I contacted Heartland. Fife RV is not being dropped. According to Mike, the Western sales manager, Fife will be expanding Bighorn sales and service. Apparently, the minimal representation at the show was part of some sort of plan.

    Heartland underepresented in the Northwest

I wonder the same things. I do know that Heartland does decide if a dealer can carry a brand. It also says on its website that it restricts the number of dealers within a geographic area to protect pricing. I don't know about revoking dealerships. I also have to wonder why such a large market is...

    Heartland underepresented in the Northwest

Spokane is a lot smaller than Seattle and over 250 miles away. If Fife loses Bighorn, then we are essentially orphaned. Also, does it make sense to you that a RV manufacturer would just abandon the largest market north of Los Angeles? This seems pretty odd to me.

    Heartland underepresented in the Northwest

We visited the Seattle RV show this past weekend. There was a discouragingly small representation of Heartland products. There were a couple of travel trailers scattered around and one lonely Bighorn 3160 EL. This show, of course, is sponsored by dealers who bring inventory in the hopes of...

Dual Alternator Option on Tow Vehicle

We looked at the dual alternator option for our Ford 350. Its really intended for auxiliary equipment that needs a lot of current. We have the Ford heavy duty alternator and dual batteries. That's more than enough for the diesel and the trailer. The wiring from the truck to the 7 pin harness...

EVENT: Heartland Chapter Rally: OR, North Bend - 7/24/2015 to 7/26/2015

I don't think we will be interested. We have been to Mill for the past two summers and have had a good time touring on our own. We love Hanson's (sp?) reef where there are thousands of sea lions. We always spend time there each visit.

Re: Damaged Camper and Landing Gear I see this sort of comment on forums. You probably don't have the right to refuse to accept the trailer. Let's take a step back. First of all, there is a time limit on filing insurance claims. You should file ASAP. Even if you decide not to have the...

Engine Brake for the 6.7 Cummins

I disagree. I've manually downshifted quite a bit when not in tow/haul with negligible brake effect. Ford says in the superduty diesel engine supplement: Integrated Engine Braking This feature increases engine braking at higher engine speeds to provide better grade descent control with less...

Engine Brake for the 6.7 Cummins

You can use noisy systems over most all passes here. The only restrictions are in more populated areas. There are compression brake prohibited signs in most populated areas, including very small villages. However, the major routes have no such restrictions. Snoqualmie pass isn't very steep, by...

Engine Brake for the 6.7 Cummins

It is a great illusion! Honestly, there is more cr.p on these boards sometimes. Our 2014 F350 uses its fake engine/exhaust braking to go down lots of 5 and 10 mile steep slopes pulling our 14,000 lb BH. Somehow the illusion prevents the real brakes from overheating and losing grip. Since we will...

Our's is the 2014 with the two stage turbo. As I recall, the diesel guide claimed it was an exhaust brake. I don't know, but we were really happy with how well it worked even on steep grades.
