    Factory aluminum rims cracking

I reported mine. Also, my trailer was stationary both times and wheel replaced before moving again (or using the spare in the interim), so I haven't replaced my tires.

    Towmax Tires

Probably is. I couldn't remember why the LT vs. ST ratings were different, but I believe Dan's post (next one) is pretty much why.

    Towmax Tires

Note that Sailun offers (edited to add: used to offer) both an ST and an LT model. My Big Country shipped with LTs. Looking at a neighbor's Bighorn at the national rally this summer, his had STs. The only differences that I could discern is that the ST tires have a higher weight rating...

    Mail forwarding services

Escapees out of Texas handled our mail (full-timers) for about three years. Early on there were problems getting things in a timely manner due to an overloaded North Houston mail hub, but that seemed to smooth out a couple years ago. I liked their scanning service, but they thought it more of a...

    Towmax Tires

Max PSI is typically stamped on the back side of one of the wheel spokes. Dismount a tire/wheel assembly and look in the back to verify. Most all of the fifth wheels in your class (15,500 lb.) of rig coming off the Heartland assembly line are now equipped with Sailun S637 Load Range G tires...

Things I Like About Rallies and Things I Don't

Fair enough. Not implying you were trying to be a party crasher or anything. I've seen previous posts from other (generally newer) members asking if they have to sign up or can they just show up because they live, or were going to be camping, in the area. Sorry about your experience. I'd be...

Things I Like About Rallies and Things I Don't

Here's my take: 1) Do you enjoy planned activities like plant tours, local sightseeing trips, attending events like concerts or racetracks etc. or do you feel compelled to participate in something that is of little or no interest? I like having a list of tours, trips and events that I can...

Things I Like About Rallies and Things I Don't

Note that not signing up for the rally, but just happening to be in the same park at the same time doesn't afford you the benefit of attending various activities that were planned for the rally - especially those that the chapter is paying for. That said, it doesn't excuse folks for totally...

    Please Don't Discontinue the 28DBSS!

RV Trader shows quite a few new models of that trailer available all over the country. You could do what we did with our first RV. We were decided upon a particular model and waiting on a bonus to be able to pay for it outright. Every time we'd check back on one we had looked at, it was sold, so...

    Hello from Torklift

Hey Kyle, Hope things are going well for you and everyone at Torklift. We're still enjoying our steps. We just got back home to our site in Florida where we'll be until it's time for Spring rallies. Well, we do have one more trip out late next week for Thanksgiving.

    Slide out cylinder replacement

Re: Slide out cylinder Are you sure it is the seal leaking? The reason I ask is that our door-side slide cylinder was leaking. Because the end of the cylinder at the frame opening was lower than the interior end of the cylinder, we would see a drip or two of fluid at the frame end. I knew it...

Getting through Montgomery AL... tips or clues?

I-65 south to I-85 north (Exit 171). I-85 exit 9, keep to the right lane (doesn't stop) and head south on AL 271/Taylor Rd. AL 271/Taylor Rd. ends at US 231. We lived in the area for years (as a matter of fact we're in the area this week) and that's how we go. While your US 80 route would work...

    Changes to Texas Registration

Couple other notes: 1. The news article you linked was posted about two years ago. 2. This may have changed, but when we were full-timers using Escapees in Texas for an address, we could renew tags online and they'd send them to us even though we hadn't had the rig inspected for that renewal...

    Replacement Steps for a BH

Another vote for Torklift. And though I read the instructions, I didn't pay attention and put the four bolts that mount the frame to the rig backwards. Took a bit to figure out why the steps wouldn't fold all the way in.

What did you do to your camper today?

Not today, but a couple weeks ago. Saw a code for 15% off at RV Lock and decided to grab some items. We got two cargo door keypad handles and one cargo door normal handle (put a keypad and a normal handle on the door side cargo door). Also bought one of the remotes so we can unlock either of the...

Bypassing Houston: Sam Houston (8) or Grand Parkway SH-99?

Beltway 8 has some sections where it is toll tag only, as well. If you pass through more than two plazas without a toll tag, you get smacked with toll violations. I found that out the hard way when I took our rig to PPL last summer with our truck that I hadn't registered on the web site yet and...

    What's your preference and reasoning F-350 3.55 or 4.1

In its basic form, the rear gear ratio is a torque multiplier. If you multiply the rated engine torque by the rear end ratio, you can find out the theoretical torque to the rear wheels at a 1:1 transmission ratio, which the Ford 6-speed auto doesn't have, but let's pretend it does. Also, not all...

What did you do to your camper today?

I followed the instructions that came with it. Knowing how it is assembled now, I could replace the keypad without disassembly. For that matter, the keypad could be replaced without removing the unit from the door.

What did you do to your camper today?

Replaced the cracked keypad on our RV Lock. The unit is about three years old (I think, seems I remember buying it at the Urbanna Rally in '14). Since we full-time and use the keypad to lock and unlock the trailer every day, I thought that was a pretty good service life. Replacement keypads...

Texas to End Annual Emmisions Testing?

I stand corrected. I was only a Texas "resident" for a couple years in Polk County via Escapees, and they obviously don't have emissions testing there. Makes sense that larger metropolitan areas would.

Texas to End Annual Emmisions Testing?

Texas doesn't have emissions testing. They do have an annual inspection that consists of making sure brakes work, tires aren't bald and lights all work (applies to both truck and trailer).

2016 Big Country 4010rd info on changing Norcold 2118 fridge for residential fridge

In general, the Norcold 2118 is the same height (69") and width (36") as most residential counter depth refrigerators, which is what you'll look for as a replacement. Our 2015 Big Country came with a residential counter depth Frigidaire refrigerator that is still available at most big box...

Why it's important to have an EMS

The last time someone told me that an EMS doesn't work was a camp host at a campground we stayed in for a couple weeks one winter. I insisted that it was showing an issue, so she called the resident electrical guru. He verified that our 50 amp plug was, indeed, showing about 108 Volts on one leg...

Why it's important to have an EMS

We've had one (built-in model) from almost day one. The few times it has indicated a problem, campground staff were always quick to point out that those devices (the EMS) never work right and advise I should get rid of it to make my life easier.

    Factory aluminum rims cracking

The OP seemed to indicate he may have driven on low tire(s). Not sure on Duane (porthole). As mentioned in my last post, both of mine went down overnight or at least when parked. I run a TPMS with 95 psi as a low pressure alarm. Never got an alarm while driving.

EVENT: Heartland Chapter Rally: MT, Red Lodge - 9/7/2017 to 9/10/2017

    Factory aluminum rims cracking

I'll be honest and say that I don't know the load per wheel on my trailer. I had the opportunity to have the rig weighed at the national rally this summer but passed. Based on experience with my previous weighings and knowing how we load our trailer, I can say with relative confidence that none...

EVENT: Heartland Chapter Rally: MT, Red Lodge - 9/7/2017 to 9/10/2017

EVENT: Heartland Chapter Rally: MT, Red Lodge - 9/7/2017 to 9/10/2017

For those more familiar on the best route to Red Lodge coming in from the west off I-90, Google maps is suggesting exiting at Columbus and taking 421 to 212, then on to Red Lodge. Alternate (and longer) route is same exit and taking 78 through Absarokee to 212 and heading back north to Red...

    Level Up Recalibration

Another tip - the level-up considers level as +/- 0.2 degrees. Since the last operation is typically bringing the front of the trailer up to level, it often stops about 0.2 degrees below level. (This was all told to me by Lippert at the 2015 Goshen rally). A handy tip is to manually run the...
