Landmark is gone but not forgotten

We had to sell our Landmark and Volvo truck. My health has kept me from driving, especially the Volvo towing the LM, and Connie never could drive the truck. So we now have a mh, and it is much more convenient, although much smaller. Since I recently paid HOC membership for three years (not...

    How far is too far?

We only drive until we decide to stop. When going across the great plains we will push a little harder, but we don't have a schedule. Our fuel range is well over 2,000 miles, so we're never pressed that way. I like to cruise around 60-65 mph (9.5 mpg), but have cruised at 75 mph (all tires...

    Fireplace plug over heated.

There have been some complaints about the fireplaces, but nothing consistent. If the fan stops while the heating element is on the grill and surrounding area can get very hot. As with anything that can draw higher current, a loose wire in the circuit can get hot and arc, creating a fire risk...

Replace Lousy Ventadome Bathroom Vent Fan

My Landmark came with those cheapie little fans in both the bath and bedroom but a three speed Fantastic Vent Fan in the kitchen on a thermostat. The kitchen fan was too high to manually adjust anything unless I got on a chair. I ordered two Fantastic Vent Fans with remote controls. I...

    Spare tire / wheel question

I would talk to Heartland first unless you think you've burned the bridge. I think you're right about the spare being defective when you bought the rig new. It should be easy for your dealer to see that the tire/wheel had never been mounted on the axle and had no wear on the tread. The spare...

Any recommendations for installing fresh tank heater(s) in LM?

Dan, Thank you for your very informative and thorough response! I'll review and bookmark all your referred sites. Because of the possible considerable expense this project may have to wait.

Any recommendations for installing fresh tank heater(s) in LM?

Thanks Dave and Dan. We're not in Polson, MT, where it has been quite nice this winter, but we're in northeast NC. Today's high/low is 19/13, but tomorrow is 46/43, with similar wamer temp forecast from now on. We tried the hairdryer and got nothing, but are temporarily hooked to city water...

Any recommendations for installing fresh tank heater(s) in LM?

My 2012 Key Largo fresh water freezes up well before dawn when temps get below 15*F over night. My basement is plenty warm, so the freeze is occurring in the holding tank area. I'm not concerned with the waste or black tanks, as a gallon or two of rv antifreeze keeps a tank less than half full...

    Bearing Maintenance

I've hand packed many bearing over the years, but the hardest part of the job for me was getting the hub nut to just the right tightness to assure longest bearing life. Even the "pros" can get it wrong, that's why I replaced all fiver axle bearings in Sep 2014 when finding two were noisy after...

    Axle seals

The local bearing expert recommended Timkin bearing and seals for my Dexter 7k axles, even though they are now made in China. He replaced all my bearings and seals in Sep 2014 when I got new 17.5" wheels and GY114 tires. I had my bearings repacked at a local rv dealer a year previous but they...

German Fifth Wheeler need help with brakes

The Blue Dot is only part of the whole braking system, and it can be installed several ways. Those with hdts can use the the truck air or not. The trailer onboard system consists of hydraulic disc brakes, such as those made by Dexter, Kodiak or others; a Blue Dot proportional air actuation...

Filling water tank...when nowhere near city water

Several ways to do it. I carry a 50gal bladder type tank on my truck and use a 120v pump that developes plenty of pressure. I have a big inverter with four big 6v batteries and two Honda 2000s, so plenty of power to run the pump. I've seen folks use regular 12v pumps like the onboard water...

German Fifth Wheeler need help with brakes

There is an air disk brake conversion for recreation trailers called Blue Dot. You can find information on the internet, but email me (marvmarcy@me.com) and I'll get you in contact with the experts. There is a group of us with heavy duty road trucks that keep in touch. Many of this group with...

    Noisy water lines

I added an accumulator tank to my water system. You can buy a small one at most camping supply stores. These little tanks already have the connectors to connect to the pump output, but they don't hold much extra water. You can buy larger accumulator tanks at HD or Lowes, but you have to fit...

    Landmark 365 - Charleston

Re: New 365 Landmark Floor Plan -- Charleston I've never seen a floor plan or rv that had everything and didn't have trade-offs. We much prefer the livability of most fifth wheels to any motorhome, but that's based on how we use our rv as well as personal preference. While we are overall very...

Added Lights to Bottom of Cabinets

Nice job. I'm wondering if our 2012 Key Largo has different lighting because we have both aimable reading lights on the wall by each recliner as well as lights in the underside of the cabinets over the recliners. I just replaced the bulbs with high output LEDs and have abundant light for reading.

Front skirt for 2011 Big horn

What Ken said. That is the only way to get the proper fit and complementing color. Have the front reinforced where it hits the pin box or you will soon have holes in it.

New Member and Owner in Montana

Welcome and congrats on buying a fine Heartland product and making it home with it this time of year. I grew up in Missoula. We're MT Heartland owners and members of the HOC (WA chapter). We are full timers, residents of Polson, and spend all summer on our property there. Where do you call home?

Pull Test, Tug Test or No Test?

I used to pull test with my F550 because I could high-hitch or jaws not lock. With my ET hitch the jaws won't allow the locking bar between them unless the pin is properly placed. Once locked in place the jaws can't open. I haven't pull tested since I got the Volvo and the ET. The ET is...

Engine Brake for the 6.7 Cummins

I live in western MT and want to go to the coast on occasion and be prepared for things like this. Since I have a two-stage Jacobs engine brake on my Cummins ISX15, I wondered where you meant by "around here". I've seen few restrictions on Jake use, usually in populated areas. Most...

LevelUp Issue on 2015 Heartland Oakmont 345RS

Be happy your dealer is fixing a problem rather than leaving it with you to finally bring it back later. I agree the Level-Up can do wierd thing, but it can be reset and recalibrated easily. It was the focus of my learning when my rig was new, and now I know what to do when it doesn't level...

Damaged Camper and Landing Gear-- Repaired--

Re: Damaged Camper and Landing Gear i heartily agree with Jim! File an insurance claim with your company and get an adjuster to look at it. If the cost to repair gets high enough, they may total it. Tell the adjuster where all you have found damage likely caused by dropping the rig...

"Dry Weight" of Landmark exceeds listed axle (s) capacity--should I discuss with Heartland?

My pin weight is at least 3,500#. Most of that is held in the cargo bays (big inverter, 4 big batteries, generator, and lots of heavy stuff. I pull out things I don't need to carry each fall before departing MT to keep from going over the 16,500# GVWR. That leaves me with 13,000 on the two...

What Size Generator do I need

Since you have the residential refrigerator powered by inverter off your batteries, the generator will have a bigger load than if you had a Norcold or Dometic rv frig on gas. The residential frig likely draws around 7-8 amps from the inverter or the generator - thats over half the capacity of a...

What Size Generator do I need

FWIW: Here's my opinion and what I did. I had the generator prewiring in my rig and could have gotten the Onan. I chose the Honda 2000 then added a Honda 2000 Companion for a total of 26.6 amps out through a 30 amp socket. Both cost half the Onan and both together weigh much less. I use...

    sewage connections

I suspect the rear valve has been mislabeled and is actually a gray water tank. The front two valves are likely for the bathroom and the mislabeled one is for the kitchen.

    Microwave fire

I recommend you use only glass or ceramic type bowls/plates. Plastics often contain toxins that are released into the food with heat. For example, BPAs are found in many plastics including even the white liners in cans.

Front Landing Jack not extending, but will retract.

By the wording of your post, I presume it isn't hydraulic. If it is gear driven, I suspect it just needs lubrication. Your rig is 7 years old and the grease may have dried out and gotten dirty.

    Show off your towing rig!

I don't know how to post photos, but its probably just as well - I might upset the "bigger-is-better" folks (truck in sig below). ;) Seriously, I'd be proud to own any of the beautiful trucks on this thread.

Inverter Question on where power will be supplied

I highly recommend you look at this site: www.jackdanmayer.com. Jack explains what you need for just about any inverter installation and solar installation. I installed a 30A subpanel and Magna 2812 w/ four big 6V batteries. I keep the bats up with solar panels and genny. I did it right and...

Does your stove top cover (s) get hot?

Corian can withstand heat very well. Years ago a local cabinet shop burned and most of the wood display cabinets were left ashes; however, all the corian counter tops were only discolored on the surface at most and easily cleaned up like new.

    ATF: Landmark - rust question

FWIW: The best coating for ferrous metals that I've found is POR 15, but it is a bit of work to apply and expensive. Therefore, I usually just scrape, apply Ospho or Naval Jelly, wipe dry and repaint. POR 15 is siliconized and very hard and strong, so it lasts.

Who here hasn't had their trailer tires balanced?

I heartily agree! My original 614s were not balanced but were decent without it. They looked good after 3yrs and 24,000 miles. I was lucky. Part of the price of the new 114s was a balance and steel stems. They needed that balance. I also replaced all bearings at the same time - they needed...

    Rearview cameras

They sell through Ebay. You can look on Ebay and go from there to their web store. The system I got is item # 271245286497 and the trailer interconnect cable is item#261304355457. Total cost is $748.98.

    Rearview cameras

Has anyone added rearview cameras to their truck and trailer? Full-timing forum discussion (2015)

Re: Full-timing Forum? Does anyone want it? Since we've been rving since 1979 and fulltiming since 2000, we rarely have questions and have established sources for nearly anything. This and other forums offer lots of information for us, but new Heartland owners considering fulltiming haven't...

    Popping level up ?

Just the loud noise is bad enough but it nearly always shakes the rig - often it shakes a lot. It is more prevalent in front and seems to be temperature related, but it can happen many times though the night - frightens us awake. I put in at least three quarts of antistiction fluid (both torco...
