    adding second battery

I am considering putting in 2 - 6 volt batteries in my bighorn as some of you have done. I am wondering will the stock converter/charger still be okay and the charging from my truck at 14.4 volts be okay since the batteries hooked in series will equal 12 volts. Who can explain why this is...

    winterize ice maker?

I always winterized the icemaker. I pump about 30 lbs of air into the line and turn the gears on the icemaker to force it through its fill cycle until I get no more water, just air, usually 3 times.

Proper fix for nail in tire

I have plugged tires for years and never had an issue. If it is a clean round hole. If a screw is in for a while before you go flat and causes a slice type of hole, you may have a problem, but most often a nail or screw makes a clean enough hole for a plug. The big advantage being that you...

    Dometic Refrigerator thermal fuse

I was on a trip recently and the refrigerator completely shut down. No light no nothing. After much seaching I found a little black reset button on what must be a thermal fuse attached to the flue. Pushing the button reset everything and it was fine for the rest of the trip. But on the way...

As ray said no wires to the thermostat as you are bypassing it. Just put a switch between the existing wires. I did this also and works great.

    Lippert springs strike again

Get all new springs with at least one more leaf than you have now. Trust me 2008 Bighorn, broke spring, ruined two tires, repair bill $2100. Went to spring shop and bought my own springs with one extra leaf. They were Dayton springs and the arch was much more that original equipment. Raised the...

    Tire Blow out

http://www.trailertiresandwheels.com/site/1284278/product/RG614 Here is a good source. Some places want nearly $400 each for the G614. I have these since my Star brand tires showed up this spring with hundreds of little cracks in the side walls.

    Has anyone noticed??

Re: Has anyone notiiced?? I had about 15,000 on my last two remaining star tires. I just pulled it from winter storage and found hundreds of tiny cracks in the side walls. The first two where ruined by broken spings last summer. So now I have 4 goodyear 614's. I also found broken welds on the...

    2011 BH 3670 Electrical Problems

I have used the progressive adapter to plug into 20 amp and 30 amp and it works well, but won't work if the 20 amp is a ground fault plug with it is about 75% of the time. I have not found a way to override this, not sure if there is a way. So usually can't use my adapter.

    Outside sprayer

I replaced mine with a sprayer hose from Lowes. I found that it matched just fine. The plastic housing had broken on mine. Just be sure to get on with a small enough sprayer head on it so it will fit in the little pocket and the door will shut.

    Question on Equaflex

I have the equaflex on my 2008 Bighorn 3670RL. I was looking at it the other day and it has what looks like bumpers for the rubber pads welded on between the plates that the bolts go through. This is hard to explain, but those of you that have equaflex will probably know what I mean. My...

Rant of the day - "no name" tires

I am curious what kind of insurance you have and do most insurance companies cover damage from a blowout. I know they don't cover the tire, but do most cover the damage.

    Firestone airbags

Thanks for all the replies. I ordered the 2299 and installed them today. Not too bad, although the weather was hot 92 degrees. Took about 2 1/2 hours including jacking up and removing the tires, probably the hardest part of the job. Looks good, now I can level up my bighorn when towing.

    Firestone airbags

I am wanting to order and install the firestone riderite airbags. In looking at the firestone website it lists part no. 2299 for a dodge 3500 and part 2478 for a 3500 HD cab and chassis. My truck says 3500 HD on it and is a dually but I don't know what the cab and chassis means. When I look...

    outside shower part where ?

Had the same thing happen there was a 3/8 pipe fitting that I was able to buy a new sprayer at Lowes and screwed it on and works great. You will want to get one that is small enough to fit inside the little door that holds the sprayer handle, if yours is the same as in my Bighorn. I do have to...

Using rear ladder for bike rack

I would not do it. I have had bike racks on every unit I have owned and have had to weld extra supports for them. There is an unbelievable amount of energy in those bouncing bikes. The one I have now is an expensive one that goes into a 2 inch hitch receiver I had welded to the Bighorn. On...

    Turning off battery power

Re: Turining off battery power Battery disconnect switch is best. That way it is a quick shut off wether you are storing if for a few days or weeks. I used to mess with disconnecting the cable, but it is nice to just switch it off and on. You will never be able to shut down all phantoms loads...

    Black Tank issues

This gets my vote as well. If you notice the smell when dumping or releasing a sink full of water down the drain, it is probably the air admittance valve.

    My disappointment in Heartland

Bottom line, you have to be aggressive with dealers. Don't let them keep your rig while parts are on order. I never do. Yes it means I have to take my rig in and then return it to them when the parts come in, but I get to go camping while they wait for parts. Some dealers are better than others...

    My disappointment in Heartland

I understand your point as well, but I have to agree, I don't think they can extend warranties each time something is fixed. I would be more concerned that they fix it right and it sounds like they replaced the entire floor of the slide. Hope you enjoy your new unit. You will just have to camp...

    swaying

If you want to try the simple less expensive things first, I found that using the chalks that use a screw to wedge between the tires takes a lot of motion out of our Bighorn. The chalk wedges that lay on the ground while they keep the trailer from rolling down the hill, do nothing to stop sway.

    winter storage question

If you store outside and live in a harsh winter environment, consider installing four sissor jacks in front of and behind the wheels to keep snow buildup from weighing down the axles and suspensions. The average snow weighs 15 lbs per cubic foot and can add up quickly to 4000 lbs of snow on...

    R factor in slide outs

We have noticed that if we sit at our kitchen table in slide, we have to turn the air to a colder temperature to be comfortable as we are in the main living areas. We especially notice it if we sit for a couple of hours at the table playing games. We just turn the AC on more. I don't really camp...

    Refer fins---frosting up a lot

At the very least, even if your not having trouble, take a look at the insulation at the top and sides. I bought two rolls of 1 inch insulation and rolled pieces up to form 2 inch thick rolls and forced these into the top and side spaces. Mine was very poorly insulated. I spend almost two...

    Refer fins---frosting up a lot

I think sliding the thermister up and down to change temperature is an urban RV myth. If you think about it, it would be like having two temperature controls and one might ask, why. If you want colder temps, try insulating it with pipe insulation or drill out a piece of styrofoam to insulate it...

    Refer fins---frosting up a lot

I just open the door and put a table fan directly on the fins, takes less that 5 min the ice falls off into the tray. I remove it and resume life. You don't want to use a heated source like a hair dryer, just plain air. My refer need this treatment about every three weeks. I have never really...

    Remote Control

I guess this is okay, just be sure to check before you push those buttons, and oh, don't let the dog or the kids play with the remotes. I have bent one set of cabinet door hinges and broke one piece of inside slide trim even after I "checked" everything before moving the slides.
