ATF: Bighorn - nor-cold fridge

We have had our 3610 Bighorn for less than 8 months. The cooling system has gone and has leaked the ammonia into the freezer compartment
When we brought this to our dealer's attention for warranty, they said that this model fridge has been a problem for a while. Is anyone else having issues and has Heartland considered replacing them with something more reliable?
Thanks

Hi andibaby,

Sorry you're having this problem. Fortunately, since it's under warranty, it shouldn't be too hard to get it fixed good as new.

Ironically, after years of people complaining about Dometic refrigerators, Heartland started using Norcold not too long ago.

Are they going to replace the unit or pull it out and replace the cooling unit on the back? We are experincing issues with our Norcold 1210 and are in the process of working through these issue to have it corrected.

We had a Norcold fridge in our last RV and LOVED it. It worked flawlessly for the 7 years we had that camper - we then sold it to upgrade to the Elkridge.

We're thinking of switching our Dometic out for a Norcold... the Dometic has zero adjustments and often gets too cold. We're in the Pacific NW, where 80F is "HOT", and we use the RV in the fall quite a bit when temps are down in the 50's and 60's. Seems to me there should be a way to adjust for ambient temperatures, but Dometic supposedly does that automatically??

I'd get your Norcold replaced under warranty and hope the current model was just a lemon - hopefully Norcold has addressed the problem in the last 8 months.
