Bird's Eye Camera on 5th-wheel?

I've been using a Rear-View-Safety (RVS) four-camera system with a monitor in the truck for about 3-years while towing a 36' travel trailer (3 on the TT and 1 in the grille of the truck). It was great, but since I learned about the Bird's Eye system that gives you an "areal" all-around view, I've been drooling for one. When I contacted RVS about using this system on a 5th Wheel, they said that it really wasn't appropriate for a trailer system. They say it's only for a single vehicle system such as a bus, or a Class C or Class A, etc.

However, I had seen this video on YouTube https://youtu.be/KX7FxUlgbuQ that demonstrates using it on a TT.

Have any of you installed a Bird's Eye system on your 5W? Here is the RVS system https://www.rearviewsafety.com/hd-360-camera-system-with-built-in-dvr-rvs-77555.html . I know it's pricey, but I just "gotta know" if it could work before I reinstall my four-camera system.

That would be cool. But with that price, not sure how many could afford it.

Whew that is definitely pricey! You could get a power inverter plug that into your truck, and then an all in one household security system to plug into that inverter and it would do the same thing and you'd be looking at maybe 500.00 tops.

By the way how do you like the camera in your grill guard? I've been thinking about one for my truck so when I park I dont smack anything by pulling to close, I dont always trust those beeping sensors and sometimes it'd be nice to see how close I am to the object in front of me.

Something to this effect is what I'm talking about, some companies make systems with detachable monitors in various sizes and also various size cameras or you can use your phone as the monitor. Then just pair this system with an AC-DC power inverter and you'd be golden and save a ton of money plus your storage space would be much bigger, with better quality cameras.

Good ideas about the inverter, etc. I already own a 4-camera system though. I added the fourth camera for the front of the truck after driving without one for a year. Like you might think, maneuvering a high truck within the tight spaces of an RV park can get pretty dicey. There are rocks, bushes, decorations and other vehicles that you must get pretty close to, and may not even see while attempting to twist and turn your way backward and forward into a site. I LOVE having the camera on the front. When I'm really concerned I'll switch my monitor from a quad view (all four cameras) to just the front camera so I can see what's in front of me. Like with any camera, the benefit is in where you place it. Also it takes a while for your mind to learn to adjust to the various fish-eye views that the cameras may have. My DW helps me back in but when I pull forward, she can't always run up to the front of the vehicle to see what I'm approaching. We had a 36' trailer (add 3' for the tongue), and a 22' truck, and it would be quite a run for her to be at both ends of the vehicles!

Thanks GK2018. That would be quite a setup. The RVS system (not the fish-eye version) costs between $400 to $600 for a pretty great setup. I'd be concerned about those cameras protruding from the sides of the trailer. Plus, the RVS units switch with the turn signals, so I get the passenger side camera on the whole monitor when I turn the right turn signal on. It helps me verify that there isn't a vehicle or obstacle when I'm turning. Once the turn is completed, the monitor returns to my selected view (i.e. rear only, or a grouping of 3 or 4 views). Since they're made for vehicles I'd recommend that system over the home systems.

That would definitely be a long hike back to the front of the vehicle! There's been a couple times we've ran into situations like that where you can't tell how close you are to something and it can be a bit nerve racking sometimes! I wound up pulling into a one direction traffic flow campsite one time that was relatively easy to get into but then when it came time to leave the darn trees were so close together and my turning points were so wide that I'm still not sure how I managed to get out of there. At one point I was debating on going off road or even backing down the one way in the direction we came in some cameras would've saved a bunch of getting in and out of the truck over and over though!

I can definitely see your thoughts behind not wanting the "household system" it is really nice to be able to have it wired to the turn signals and stuff alot like the backup camera is on our truck.
