Black tank dump valve access 2007 Big Horn 3055RL

I went to do a black tank dump but nothing came out, handle pulls cable OK so I guess the cable is disconnected from the black tank dump valve so now I need to access that valve, what is the easiest access strategy ? Any other advice on possible related issues and how to solve them are much appreciated, thanks Doug

try dropping down the edge of the chloroplast so you can see inside; locate the valve & then cut triangle(two sides, hinged side to the front) opening in chloroplast underneath the valve. Make repairs & then tape up the opening with good duct tape. Good luck

You could have the cut out hole slug in there when they drilled out hole for the down pipe and has floated to the gate valve shutting off black water.
Been there done that.
Good luck.

agree with Routemaster. Had that dreaded slug in my tank as well. As. Stated,, drop coroplast around pipe exit and have someone work the pull handle to see if it is functioning or disconnected. If it’s working, buy A Vakterra black flusher and back flush into the black tank to drive the blockage back into tank away from the valve opening .

If the handle and cable pull in and out easily with no resistance at all, it is likely it has disconnected and you will need to cut the
Corplast fix as others have said. If you feel resistance and think the valve is moving, there may be a plug. In that case a reverse flush valve may help remove the clog.

Any chance you already have one of these add-on valves on the outlet pipe as listed in previous thread posts? You have to open this valve too, to get wastewater flow.

Any joy with yours DougNZ?
Do you know that I forgot that I had this access deck hole in my shop, it could save doping the belly and I have in the past replaced both the galley and bath gate valves on this tub, so I am now thinking when time arises I thought about cutting and make up a back up plate installing this one at the location of the loo gate valve then one could stick the alloy and insulation to the inside and screw it up on in, what do you reckon good or bad idea?

Hi everyone, thanks for the assistance. The black valve is about 12" inboard of the final outlet location. No cut out plug problem but good to be aware of that. I bought a valve that fits on the bayonet end of the dump location which has a locking pin that is supposed to stop the valve coming undone whilst you are undoing the other coupling, it doesnt work ........
Now using zip ties to secure the valve.
Haven't got to the bottom of the issue exactly yet but the back dump valve is free to move at the valve so suspect a corroded cable.
Just arrived into Denver after a trip from Vegas, new issue is heater but will look elsewhere for info on that.
Thanks guys.

Problem now a crisis ! Black tank is full. The cable whilst stiff to operate is connected OK to the rod that I assume connects to the knife inside the valve, it now appears that the rod has come disconnected from the knife, I have tried simultaneously pushing and rotating the rod to engage it into the knife with no success, any suggestions would be appreciated. If I can't get the drain to operate I am thinking I will need a mobile pump out and then get the valve replaced or fully open it and simply rely on the valve I have added to the end of my dump system. Thank you.

The problem is that you can’t get into the tank to have pumped out. If the valve is closed you have no access to pumping. Only solution would be to have pumped out through toilet if the pumper can get his suction hose down the toilet. I would drop coroplat and see if I could reconnect to the dump valve.

Thanks and yes pumping will have to be via toilet. Dump valve stem is connected to tee handle and cable, I think the stem of the valve is disconnected from the knife part of the knifegate valve. Current plan is to suck out tank as much as possible, drill a hole into the body of the valve and with a punch try and drive the gate open then epoxy resin the hole.

The cable should be held to the blade handle with an Allen keyed insert. You should be able to re- insert cable and tighten if it is not stripped.

I've seen postings where the opening of the tank is blocked with poo or plugs when the tank openings were drilled out with hole saw from factory. I would try black flushing via the dump point opening, hopefully this will push/force blockage back into the tank, then when water is shut off drain will drain out. Good luck

If your 07 is similar to my 06, your black tank valve is connected by a rod from the UDC, not a cable like on the grey tanks. Pumping out through the toilet may not be an option due to how the plumbing is routed. Take the belly skin down at the edges and look for the tank locaion, probably right behind the UDC. Cut the skin and make it so one side remains attached like a hinge, make the repair and put the skin flap back, clean the surface denatured alchol, and tape with Gorilla tape, Zip tape if available. You can message me with any questions you may have. There isn't too many repairs or modifications I haven't done to our 06 since purchasinf in 09.
