blowing fuses

Just bought a 2015 cyclone 3010 a few weeks ago. Now the 15 amp fuse keeps blowing when I try to extent or retract the carefree awning on the back over the ramp and side door at the garage. The dealer is 550 miles away so I was going to figure it out myself. The power coming in feeds 2 switches and some lights witch don't blow until I push the switches. If I cant fix it myself I will call a dealer closer to see if they will do warranty work. Has anyone else had the same problem ?

Hi speed2424,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum and to the family. We have a great bunch of folks here with lots of information and all willing to share their knowledge when needed.

If you have questions about anything in/on your unit, you can find the answer most likely right here. We have a great search engine on the forum, both simple and advanced. Sometimes that is the fastest way to find an answer instead of waiting on someone to reply.

Hopefully someone that has experience with awnings will jump in soon with some info. Am I reading this right... the lights work OK, but you have 2 switches for awnings, rear and side, and when you push either one of the switches it will blow the fuse?

You are not pushing both switches and the same time are you??

I also moved thread to better area.

I would say that you need to disconnect 1 wire in the awning circuit, so that you can then measure with a ammeter how many amps are being drawn by the awning before the fuse blows (usually the fuse on any motor load circuit will be "slo-blow" as there is an initial high amp surge with any electric motor). With this information you can then talk intelligently with the Awning manufacturer and the Heartland Service department.

Be aware that the DC ammeter section in Digital Multimeters have internal fuses at the rated maximum amperage reading. If you put too much current through the meter, you can blow this internal fuse.

Putting a higher amps value fuse in place of the old fuse risks the wiring hearing up and starting a fire. Fuses are primarily a fire safety device.

And another question.
You mentioned that the fuse blows when you try to extend or retract.
Do you eventually get the awning out and then the fuse blows when you retract?
If that is not the case and the fuse blows when you just depress the button, your switches may not be wired correctly and you create a direct short when you try to move the awning.
Just another thought.

Peace
Dave

Thanks

Thanks for the help. I installed a breaker instead of a fuse and tried it, heard a little sizzle then started working. The problem is in the wiring by all switches.

Look for signs of heating at all the wire connections/switches. Solder over all crimped connections if you still haven't found the problem. If that doesn't cure it, replace the switch anyways to see if that is the problem.
