Dometic 9100 awning motor wont retract awning

My awning motor makes the sound that its trying to wind the roller in, but nothing happens.
I've tried to find a diagram of the motor but didn't find anything except how to replace it.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Im wondering if there is a shear pin or something in it that I have broke and thought
I would research it before I pull it out or spend $450.00 on a new one.

Thanks.

There may be a set screw on the motor end that can be removed to manually roll up the awning in case of motor failure. Check that screw.

Our current neighbor just experienced same. Suspects that the nylon gear has stripped some teeth. He’s researching as well. Expecting to buy a new motor.
Good luck

I've searched for a parts list but didn't find any.

Please let me know what he finds and I will post back what I find.

To the best of my knowledge, you will not be able to find parts.I had to replace mine a few years back. Believe it or not... go on WALMART .com and in search engine.. put in name of product and model number....there’s a good chance they have this item in there RV section...it will be cheaper than elsewhere.
I am from Canada and last year when in the US, I ordered parts from this site at an exceptional discount compared to other places I researched: Even cheaper than I could buy at Hershey Show.

I remember years back people finding out that the awning gearmotor was an electric window motor for something like a 2000 GM car.
You might try a forum search to see if you can find this info.
On edit:
I found that the old post I remembered was for a Carefree (brand) awning. I cut out this relevant part of that post:
". . . The awning motor I just ordered and it was $225 from carefree but I then found out that it is actually a motor from a 1999 Cadillac Deville and you can get them from an Auto Parts place for $37 online so I bought that instead. . . "

I have heard about these possible fake website postings before.
I just happened to see this doing a Google Images search on "Dometic 9100 RV Awning motor", just trying to help others on the forum.
Everybody be careful before you commit to buy!!

God bless!

This web site listed above called lannywtch.com seems very skeptical...I went and had a look at the products offered... they have a boat loads of different products under their offering BUT everything is priced from 50 to 55 dollars ....including a zero turn lawn mower.I don’t think so.
I personally wouldn’t give them my C/C number for a purchase...it’s possible it’s a legit site but I would be very careful.

Yes, I agree , I did do a search on reviews and there was no bad things but not really good things either.

The price is really hard to believe as compared to everyone else.

I was told a repair guy comes into our park and replaces the nylon gear with a metal one for about $200, I'm going g to call him and see what he says.

If I can get the part number from him I'll post it here for everyone else.

We had issues once with the bedroom slide gearbox going bad. Could not find one, a mobile repair had one. He would not sell it to me, or give a part number to buy one, but said he would install it for me.
There is that rock and hard place you hear about sometimes.

To the best of my know, edge, the only difference in model numbers is the speed of the motor, when mine went I replaced it with one from a RV dealer, different number but worked the same.My cousins awning motor is much slower than mine.
I could be wrong in my assumption but I didn’t see any difference from the replacement I purchased to the original..

I bet the motors are all really mass produced automobile electric window gearmotors just like the old Carefree awning post that I found. Cheap due to mass production, but then the awning manufacturer removes all trace of this lineage in order to do a big (8 - 10 times) parts markup.
There are also gearmotor gear manufacturers who have listings on the internet, so that you could get the gear from them if you do all the research. With modern technology you could laser scan the old gear, and get the numeric control milling machine measurements to make them.

We pulled the motor out today and we found that the gear, the peice on the very end inside the roller tube, had stripped. The shaft is flat on 2 sides and the gear has 2 flat sides also. So we stripped the gear, so we are going to try to drill a hole thru the shift and the gear and put a pin in it.

First we have to find a drill press to use, campground has one but we need someone to watch us.

Here is the gear.

We drilled it today and put the pin in and it works great.

So I would say if anyone has this issue, it was really easy to fix.
