Drivers License for towing in CA

Congratulations guys!. It looks like Fullerton DMV is the place to go. I live pretty close. Got to get motivated to take the written test.
Class C, M-1 and A non commercial. I already have my 10,000-15,000 endorsement. Time to study.

Hippy, if you choose Fullerton, let me know. I will be your escort. All they ask for is to see the class a license. Honestly, I don't think she even looked close enough to see the class of the license.

Congratulations, bobca1. Go get it done, hippy. Now that we know what to expect it's not too hard.

Bobca1 has northern LA covered if you need a class A escort. I'll offer to cover San Diego for anyone. Although they didn't ask to see the class A, you never know when that could change. Plus anyone who wants to practice the skills test I'll head on down to fiesta island with you and set up the cones.

So, It looks like KAB in San Diego, me (ladiver) in Orange County, bobca1 in LA. No more excuses for the socal guys not to get their class A if/when needed. Bob, you got off cheap, I would have asked for lunch, but I already ate. How about you supply the first round of cold drinks when we camp in San Diego (or somewhere else)????

Note to others who take me up on the class A escort in Fullerton. Take the test after noon, that way you can get out of buying me lunch. But...if you make it too late, I may ask for dinner. ;-)

Jeff/bobca1 you better let me know when you come to camp in San Diego. Although I live in Carlsbad, The shop I own is right by Campland. Roberts Auto Service. Would love to say "hi" and celebrate our class A drivers licenses.

That's a deal, I will have plenty of cold beverages for us next time we are both camping in San Diego!

Yep between the 3 of us now we have Socal pretty well covered!

I'll be there next weekend. Staying at the Santa Fe park this time usually go to Campland or Mission Bay RV both were both sold out this time. Will probably rent a wave runner saturday then go to sea world on sunday. Last time we were there kids were pretty bummed out were looking forward riding a jet ski but the bay was closed for crew races.

I drive right by Santa Fe RV on my home every night, bobca1. I'll keep an eye out for the Cyclone. If I get time I might stop by and say hi.

Arrived tonight. Sure if you have time stop by :) I'm in the B row, you can probably see the Cyclone from the freeway. This place is real tight and the spot they gave us is too small for a 38', fortunately there was no one in the spot behind me so I was able to pull though. Hope that spot is empty again Monday when I need to leave.

never knew this before reading this thread while I don't live in California, NC also requires an endorsement for towing trailers along with several other states. check this out for your state. http://changingears.com/rv-sec-state-rv-license.shtml

looked in nc manual and not much information as to what is required for Non CDL class A and B. ill have to call the DMV to find out, I sure don't want to show up unprepared.

My BH is 16000# GVWR and I'll be getting an appt for the written class A non commercial permit here in San Diego. I'll then follow up with an appt for the skills test. I know they require and will check for a properly licensed driver to be there with you. I know that finding a driver with a Cdl or class A license can be difficult. So I thought I'd pass along info that I got from the CHP officer here at the El Cajon office. As long as the driver with you is legal to drive the rig ...they can be your driver. I told him I'm bringing my neighbor here in the camp site with a South Dakota licence. He said I was good to go. This info may take a little stress since there are more options for the driver licensed with you on your skills test day

The commercial drive test in San Diego is way out there in El Cajon. It is not the regular DMV. It is very low key. There were no CHP anywhere near there when I went. They never asked to see my licensed driver either time. If you have a Class A driver who will go with you, then by all means go with them, because you are technically non licensed on the drive there if you get pulled over without the Class A driver. But I doubt they will ask you for your "chaperone" when you get there.

Yup, way out there in Rancho San Diego. I had a Cdl for forty years and gave it up just before I retired. The skills test should be a breeze unless I lose my mind. The neighbor with the South Dakota licence has no class A which isn't required there. I think class A non commercial licensees are still few and far between so the legal out of state drivers can make a convenient ride along.
