Heartland Gives Back will be working with the Smoky Mountain Children's Home in Sevierville. They have many needs for the Home so please help with one or more items from their Wish List. We have also set up a tour of the Home on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 pm. Carpooling details to come.

We now have our reservations made. We'll arrive 4-21 and leave 4-24. Linda and I are looking forward to seeing everyone. We'll also have our vinyl cutting equipment with us so if anyone need some vinyl decals made we can take care of it right there during the rally.
Yea! Maybe the time limit has not run out for Mark to apply the decal you made us in goshen, onto the new camper.(Hint hint)

Unfortunately, Fran and I will not be able to attend this rally.
We are going to miss getting together with old friends.

Hope to see you down the road.

Hopefully this won't effect the rally but something to keep in mind. I'm posting as a separate thread as well for anyone using I-75

Rock slide shuts down I-75 in Tennessee
CARYVILLE, TENN. A rock slide has shut down Interstate 75 in both directions in Campbell County, Tenn., about 30 miles from the Kentucky border. Tennessee Department of Transportation spokesman Mark Nagi wrote on his Twitter account on Saturday that motorists should be prepared to use alternate routes for weeks to come. Nagi told WVLT-TV the long closure is needed to give workers time to clean up the slide and stabilize the area, making sure it is safe. Northbound traffic is being diverted at exit 134 at Caryville. Southbound traffic is being diverted at exit 160 at Jellico. The slide happened Friday afternoon, and drivers told the station they were waiting about an hour to get off the interstate.

OK, Guys & Gals.

If you are sitting on the fence trying to decide to register for the rally or not you only have 31 days to:

1. Register
2. Let me know your t-shirt size
3. Sign up for the craft class
4. Send me a check for the dinner theater

So there you go, get off that fence and register soon.

If we have any hikers in the group, the Smoky Mountain National Park is a short distance away. Melinda and I plan on hiking Thursday morning and/or Saturday morning. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll propose a few trail options; likely easy to moderate ones.

Well we have finally decided to sign up. Will get a site reserved tomorrow.

We live right here in Sevierville and I am a Park Ranger for the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. If anyone has questions about the park or surrounding areas feel free to ask. I will either have the answer or can find it right away if I don't.

Looking forward to it and meeting a lot of you great folks here.

Cool - maybe we need a group fireside chat with FiremanBill :)

Look forward to seeing you again!

Perhaps we can to get FiremanBill to give us a few tips on the best trails to hike.

Yes and yes! Would be happy to do that.

For a moderate hike with beautiful views of the little river, several waterfalls and the peacefulness of being in the middle of nothing the best is Little River to Cucumber gap and back down Jake's Creek. about a 7 mile loop that returns to you original starting point, not an out and back. One of my favorites.

A bit more strenuous but very rewarding is the Middle Prong Trail. About 5 miles up the Middle prong of the Little river on the old rail bed of the Little River Railroad Company. Along the way if you know where to look you can see the remains of an old rusted out model A that was abandoned many years ago but the real reward is the waterfall at about the 5 mile mark. You have to know where to go off trail to find it but it is my favorite place in the park besides the top of Mt. Sterling.

The most strenuous hike I have done so far, and also the most rewarding was to climb Thunderhead Mountain out of Cades cove, about a 4000' total climb but you get to see Spence Field, Rocky Top, and Thunderhead Mountain all along the way.

Oh, and if we have any Radio Control Model flyers in the Club I am the president of the Local R/C Flying club, the Smoky Mountain Aero Club. I can set you up at our field in Sevierville to do some flying while you are here if you would like.

Yeah Bill - glad you and Kelly can make the rally. Knowing that spring is coming and how busy the Park gets, I was hoping you were able to get away. Thank you for offering your knowledge of the trails of the Smokies.

I will probably have to be in the office during the day on Thursday and Friday but evenings and weekend will be free. If I wasn't on two weeks vacation for a National RC Competition in Georgia the week prior to the rally I would have been able to take off. Getting that week off was pretty amazing as it it Rod Run weekend. The rally will just miss total gridlock with more than 30,000 classic cars and spectators in town!

Good news, Bill Sorrell (firemanbill) has agreed to give a talk about the national parks in the area. Right now I am trying to schedule him in for Wednesday or Thursday evening. This should be a very interesting topic for all.
