Our overflow drain pipe from the fresh water tank is running constantly, seeing a very slow but constant flow of water. Anyone else having this problem out there??
You may have city water running backwards through the water pump into the fresh tank. There's a type of check valve in the water pump that is supposed to allow water to flow in one directly only. If it gets stuck open, city water flows into the fresh tank causing an overflow. You may need a new pump but you can also address the issue by adding a Shurflo Checkvalve into the water line.
I had this same problem and added the check valve, but the pump then cycled irratically. I may have put the valve too close to the pump. Removed the check valve and put In a new pump. No problems now for about a year.
Run your pump at full for several minutes to try to flush out the valves. If you feel you can, the pumping chamber can be removed and cleaned by removing the screws that attach it to the pump.
There is a Shurflo manual in the Heartland Owners Manuals section.
If you put a check valve in the pressure line of a dirty pump, the pump will cycle as the pressure bleeds back through the pump. The pump senses the pressure drop and runs to raise the pressure. The pump will cycle depending on how quickly or slowly the pump leaks.
Be careful putting a check valve in the suction line. The pumps are rated to lift water to 12 feet(5.2psi) on the suction side. The check valve needs to open at less than 4psi, equivalent to 10 foot lift. That allows for 2 feet of lift from tank to pump inlet before the pump will not move water; the water will not fill the pump.
