Gas struts on cargo doors

We have a 2013 Big Country 3450TS. While at the Goshen rally I bought a couple of struts for the large cargo door. They gave me 80# struts at the parts and service area. I glued 2 pieces of 3/16 aluminum to the interior of the door to attach the struts to but when I go to close the door the aluminum gets pulled off. I am using a premium constuction adhesive which should work, but wonder if I should be using 50 or 60# stuts. Gas anyone successfully added struts?

My 2015 BH came with 60Lb struts on the Off Street side and 90Lb struts on the Driver side. The driver side struts were to much and was separating the hinge at the top. I replaced them with 60LB struts and it is much better. I found the struts at an RV supply outlet in Yuma. I also located them online.
