Help w/route from Hickory Run SP, PA to Wildwood SP Wading River, NY

Having never been to/through New York we are planning a May trip to Wildwood State Park on Long Island. For those you who have experienced pulling a 35' Fifth Wheel in/through New York - Is there a preferred route to the Wildwood SP on Long Island coming in on I-80 from Pennsylvania? Not sure of the height and traffic restrictions going through or hopefully around New York City.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Stay on 80, head to the George Washington Bridge. GWB to the Cross Bronx Expressway to the Long Island Expressway.
How in the world they got Expressway names I'll never know.

Avoid travel during rush hour.
Expect delays.
Expect road closings at night if you choose that time of day to travel.

On the L.I.E. it is not unusual to hear on traffic radio that that there are anywhere form 1-10 mile delays.
The roads in and around NYC are horrible, and the commuters, well ...............
Things get better once you are well past the city.

Plan a day trip through the Hamptons and up to Montauk if you can.
