Kansas City MO

We are about 2 weeks away from our first ever long range trip. I am leaving MN and hope to get to about Kansis City MO and are hoping that you folks could help me find a good campground near I35. It will just be an overnight stay but will need to have water and 50 amps. I have done much research and am confused on which one to stay at. Most have very poor reviews. I also think we will be hitting KC about 5pm and so don't want to travel thru the city during rush hour.

We are still new at this, but you may want to consider finding a place a little closer to you. Based on personal experience, you don't want to pull into a campground near or after dark unless you really have to. If you haven't looked at it, try looking up campgrounds on rvparkreviews.com. Happy Trails.

Deer Creek Valley RV park in Topeka KS. would be an excellent choice. Not many places will be open with full srvices that far north but this one will be. Almost new park, with all concrete roads and pads. They have heated water hoses and will hook it up for you. You can bypass Kansas City by exiting on hwy 36 (4 lanes) at Cameron MO. Go west to I-29 and take that south past the KCMO airport and connect up with I-35 again. I'll be heading down to central KS to pick up our rig which we store there in Oct. then pick up in Jan and on to AZ for the rest of the Winter. Leaving in a week. Been through that area many times....Don

First I will say I haven't stayed at the first two parks. That said Eagle Ridge RV Park, 22708 W 182nd ST Eagleville, MO 64442 has a 4.5/5 google review rating and 9/8.5/9 GS rating. Then there is Worlds of fun Village with a GS rating 9.5/9.5/8.5. When we were traveling from northern MN to Springfield MO, we stayed at Lakeside casino in Osceola IA. Last time at the casino it was only $25 for full hook up. The casino is about 35 miles from MO state line. Eagle ridge is about 10 miles in to MO on 35 and Worlds of fun is just as you are entering the KC area 105 miles from the IA/MO line. Hope this helps.[h=1][/h]

Re: Kansis City MO

I'm not sure if there are any year-round parks in Kansas City. My 2010 Woodalls CD doesn't show any within 100 miles.

I also agree that you're planning a very long day of driving - probably over 450 miles. Although you may be on I-35 most of the way, unless you have upgraded, your tires are probably rated at a maximum of 65 mph (and that should be treated as a red line). You should probably drive slower.

Two other considerations: winter weather can slow down your progress dramatically. You should have a fallback plan in case weather forces you to stop short of your goal. Also, you'll want your water systems prepared for sub-freezing weather. Take a look at our owner-written Water Systems Winter Usage Guide for tips on surviving cold weather.

If you bring 5 gals of water you can just pour some in the toilet to flush and use it to wash up. An extra battery or two would let you dry camp. Wally World in Bethany MO usually has a few on their lot. Eagle Ridge won't be open this winter. We know the owners. The Casino near the IA/MO border was an awful place when we stayed there once. Maybe it's better now with new management.

Worlds of Fun Village is closed until spring. About 1 hr. N of KC, near Cameron, MO is Wallace State Park that has 2 campgrounds open year round. Here is a link to their website. We've stayed there & it's really nice, but according to their website they have limited services, so you might have to call them to find out what they'll have. There is also Basswood Resort that is just North of KCI Airport, but it is on I-29 in Platte City here is a link to their website. I know a few people who have stayed there several times. Also in Liberty, MO there is Miller Kampark, but I don't think I'd stay there. If all else fails & you want to stay at a Walmart, there is one in Liberty, easy on & off for I-35 with restaurants within walking distance. If you want PM me & maybe I can help more...I live near Liberty.
