Looking for info about US Hwy 64

In Oct. we'll be traveling around New Mexico for the first time and want to get off the interstates. We'd like to know what US Hwy. 64 is like going west to east from Farmington to Taos. We can see that it goes over some mountain areas (or high plateaus) but don't know what kind of grade to expect or the general condition of the road. Any info would be helpful - haven't found much online that gives these details.

From my Mountain west directory - copyright R&R Publishing. Found here on the net. Best purchase for RVs travelling mountains.

Look at 12 and 4 near the top of the map for the passes you may travel on 64.

Hope this helps,
Brian

It is generally a good road. It goes by Chaco Canyon if you are interested in old Indian ruins. The mountains you will have to climb are west of Taos. Good road, two and three lane, some tight turns. Love Taos. Good New Mexican food and art.
