Primer Housing

Just curious what an average lifespan for a primer housing (pump) is. I have a 2004 GMC 2500HD diesel with 65000 miles and the primer housing died costing just under 1000 bucks to fix. Thanks

Not sure what you mean by "primer housing." I put 219,000 miles on a 2002 GMC 2500HD Duramax diesel and the only thing I ever had a problem with on the engine was fuel injectors--replaced twice. Majority of those miles were towing trailers of various kinds.

merlinb, I think piach is refering the "primary fuel housing" where the fuel filter mounts. I have the same issue. Fuel system loses its prime due to an air leak there.

The primer housing would be the fuel filter base. The button you push to prime/fill the filter after replacement.
