OK, enough is enough. Time to erase this thread from the forum before some Michigan S4B government types get the idea to change us from a permanent trailer plate to an annual renewal in order to pay for their mismanagment of the state.

What do they inspect on the 5th wheel? I have got tags 3 years in WA and have never had an inspection.

In Pa. They inspect all lights, complete brake system including breakaway and brake shoe thickness, and the suspension

Jon, I thought by memory it was $ 85.00 ??? It sounds like from your comment I may have goofed. I'll try to find my check stub... Heck, you're from PA are we paying that much too, yikes ! Maybe I ought to pay more attention to what the costs are. John Dar, are we gonna have to use that tar and feathers on you ? Quick dude, turn off the pot and let the tar cool... JIM TOO, SLAP HIM SILLY ! Inspections in PA, "what do they check" common, ya know it's just going thru the motions... None of us would go out and pull our rigs IF they weren't up to snuff... None of us would jeopardize our family or others... heck, we even care about ourselves not to be so dumb.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

New Jersey, highest in the country for property tax and auto insurance

Trailers are not property here though. Initial registration is the cost of title (don't remember the price but not much) tax at 7% of the sale price, less trade if applicable and annual registration. As of now it is still $28 a year.

My 1/2 acre lot & house is taxed at $8400 a year and insurance on the car and truck is about $3500 a year. And my property tax is reasonable compared to others in the area.

Holy $*#@! Renee just got back from the DMV to get the plates for the new one. $1630.00! That was license fee only! Taxes had already been paid. Two different girls there confirmed it. They brought up the year, make and model on their computer and it came to 84,000 list! Through the states generosity it was discounted down to about $75,000, and charged us on that. The total list on the invoice was only just over $70,000. They said you are lucky you dont live in the Denver area because it is a lot higher there and folks are driving up here with phony addresses to get their plates in our area. I gotta get out of this stinking state!

Some very high prices, however for our 5th wheel it was $14.00 and for the Frieghtliner it was $24.50 per year. Could have gotten life time plates for the 5er for $88.00 but decided not to this year. GBY....

While we may not have the worst roads in the nation, there are some that will just beat you to death. I remember hauling a good sized boat (cruiser) up to McConaughy Reservoir in Nebraska, over I76 out of Denver. Eevrytime I passed over a bridge, I would look in the rear view mirror to see if the boat was still there....

I-76 is one very bad road!! I had to drive it with the F-450 empty to get from Colo Springs to Elkhart to pick up the Landmark, and all the seams in that concrete hyway are horible. I can not imagine what it would do to a trailer.

My '10 renewal in Shelby County TN was around $16. TN does not require a trailer tag but if you go out of state you'll get nailed.

Tom; At $ 85.00 a year are you only registering your 1 ton at 7000 lbs GVW. or did you mean $ 185.00 for 13,000 lbs GVW. ?????
Let me know how to get that deal. I'm a class 05, gross wt 11400 , unladen wt 07192. Mine is still the high $200+ for tags. Inspection as we know can be all over the board depending on what the find. Last year it was rear rotors and pads so the tap went up. Took care of the front's myself when we got to CA. Back's are a &%#@ for and old guy.

Ok Bill; Glad you chimed in, I couldn't remember the exact fees. I think mine is $ 192 for 10,000 gvw. I just know $ 85 was about what a 1/2 ton plate is. See you at Spring Gulch I hope !!
