Replacing reading lights, 2008 Cape Cod

I have a 2008 Landmark 39ft Cape Cod 5th wheel. I tried to change the reading lights in the bedroom and was immediately presented with odd wiring, one inslated white wire and un-insulated copper ground wire. Attempt to wire in new 2 wire light failed and the other light doesn't work now either. Can someone explain this weird wiring to me and how to put in new lights ?
