Road Warrior - Slide out of adjustment

The slide on our brand new 2014 rw 415 in the kitchen and living area slide is out of adjustment. Is this tupical in heartland models? I am hauling it back to service friday to get issue resolved but would like advice on anything else the tech should go over prior to leaving.

Re: ATF: Road Warrior - Slide out of adjustment

Hi DeanandDarcy,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum and to the family. We have a great bunch of folks here with lots of information and all willing to share their knowledge when needed.

It's very unusual for a slide to be out of adjustment, but hopefully your dealer will get it taken care of for you without a problem. If you could tell us a little more or pictures would help about how it is not adjusted correctly.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi DeanandDarcy,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum.

It's typical to have some things need adjustment during the warranty period. Sometimes dealers catch these things before you see the RV. Sometimes you find them during the pre-delivery walk through. Sometimes you find them on your first outing.

If you're worried about other problems that you haven't yet discovered causing multiple trips to the dealer, the best thing to do is spend a few days/nights using the RV. Operate every device, every appliance, every switch. Then take it in to have the repairs and adjustments done.

Re: ATF: Road Warrior - Slide out of adjustment

The kitchen slide fully engages at the top and it approx 2.5 inches away from sealing on bottom. We are new to trailers. We have an 07 ram 2500 mega cab 6.7 liter deisel. We are putting firestone air bags and installed a 21k hitch hiker slider hitch. Truck is stock but lifted and has no problem pulling just sags a little with out air bags. Is the trailer too much for the truck?

First thing,,, pull slide in about 6" and get a flashlight and look under the slide. Between slide bottom and wall and see if something is under it. Check from the end of slide.. lots of times a for gotten salt or pepper shaker or something like that will be the problem. Usually something that did not get put up before you traveled and it fell and it is hiding from you now.

Let us know.

The RW 415 empty pin weight is 3,225 lbs. Most 2500s have a payload spec in the 2300-2700 lb range. In addition to pin weight, you have to add the weight of the hitch, bed liner, bed cover, tools, firewood, pets, passengers and anything else in the truck.

So you're without a doubt significantly over the payload spec. The real question might be 1) is it safe, and 2) will there be premature wear and tear on the truck.

Some people will say don't worry about it. Others will say not to exceed the specs.

You might visit Fifth Wheel Safe Towing for more information. And you should get actual weights on a cat scale so you know how much you're overloaded.
