Slide seals deteriorating

I own a 2012 Bighorn 3670RL. I recently noticed that the "D" shaped rubber seals for the slides are rapidly deteriorating, turning into a soft! sticky substance. These seals are the ones mounted to the trailer body that provide a seal when the slides are retracted. The trailer has always been located in the desert southwest' and, for the last year, parked in a resort with the slides extended. Is this a known material defect that Heartland will repair, or is this something new with my RV. I have not applied any treatments or lubricants to these seals and bought the unit new from a local dealer.

I have heard of this happening before but I do not know if this is a known or proven defect.
Those D seals are pretty easy to change.
You can call Heartland parts and order some new one and if you are a member of the Heartland Owner Club you can get a 10% discount on all parts.

I don't know, but maybe the application of some sort of rubber protectant will help prevent this in the future.

I have a 2011 Big Country 3595RLE. This spring, while washing the roof and slide tops, I noticed the top "D" seals were sticking to the top lip of the slide outside wall and on further inspection realized the seals were sticky and the bulb had disintegrated. The wipers, bottom bulb seals and inside seals all seemed fine. In looking at other similar threads, it seems these seals only last two or three years under certain conditions. Does anyone know if these seals are available from other sources, or just from Heartland?

I also had the same issue--and I always coated mine with 303 about every 4-6 months so I do not think that was the issue. Measure your slides, call HL and they will be glad to sell you some--remember to have your vin number. It is not difficult to replace--take out a screw at each end and they should slide off, slide on new ones and you should be all set. If they are the ones on the top of the slides, mine had caulking on the top of them and I had to cut it(the caulking) first before they would slide out, remember to recaulk
