I added Crossfires to my wheels this weekend.

After.
I will work on getting the center cap notched so I can get it back on.
I noticed a vibration after I put them on but then I had the truck out early this morning and no vibration at 60 so I am not sure what would be causing it or if it is just me.

Since this was leaking oilGEDC1695.jpg (EBPV actuator), and I have to take everything off the top of the engine to get to it anyway, I'll be putting all this upgrade stuff on as I go along. GEDC1693 (2).jpg :)

Beside the EBPV actuator (exhaust back pressure valve), I'll be redoing the turbo with 360 deg. thrust bearing and, tow wheel center cartridge, mechanical waste gate, stainless International bellowed up pipes, oil rail high pressure cross over, intake reinforcement sleeves, hi flow fuel rail banjo bolts, fuel rail cross over regulated return, AFE split manifold, intake boots and clamps, upgraded valve cover gaskets with one piece injector harness, and a S & B cold air intake. Whew. My old arse is gonna be warn out. Got most of it out, and the turbo torn apart this afternoon. Be back at it tomorrow! :)

I see the S&B box in the stack. I was running their cold air system I'm my last RAM. Very nice!

I wasn't going to get a new box but, one of the "ears" broke off the old 16 year old stock box this past Summer and, I couldn't keep the filter sealed up. I read good reviews on the S&B and, since it had the fender inlet as well, I went with it. :)

Large filter. Easy to replace. Looked awesome. Well built. Excellent fit and finish. Amplified the turbo wine, which sounded great. Especially when the turbo would spool up.

Digging the S&B....Had a different brand before it and fit was not as good. I love buying parts...just hate the work part lol

I had an S&B filter on my 4-cyl Rav4. Would always confuse the oil-change place. ;)

I got it because the design firm I worked for at the time redesigned their logo, so they gave us all t-shirts and air filters!

Sweet mods sniper. So I am guessing that you will not be getting a new ford.

Oh we are still looking em' real hard but, I won't be tradin' Ol' Faithful in on it even if we do decide to buy. The dealer will only give us "book" value on it. I've get offered more than that for about 3 times a month. LOL So, my way of thinking is that oil leak needed fixed, may as well do some mild upgrades while I'm in there and if we keep the truck it's good. If we sell the truck, it'll help get it sold which is also good. :)

Yeah i was REAL gung ho on getting in a new 350...but now having been around/in em i just am not compelled .....YET!!..

ive done so much to my current dually in all honesty i like it better.....the new interior and gizmos on new sd are definatly neat-o.....

Maybe in a couple more years....

As for the s&b its my favorite filter setup so far...ive ran stock/ AFE/ and the No Limits Fabrication (which is cool with the giant 5"intake pipe) but i never could get the fitment right so it didnt rub on my powder coat...it functioned perfect im just picky like that..

Once i deleted my truck i took the plexiglass cover off the box and put a prefilter sock over the S&B filter...great setup thus far!

Speaking of "hate the work" quote, I'll be spending an extra day on it just removing and, replacing all the broken off bolts & screws Ol' Faithful has seen fit to leave me to deal with during her upgrades. LOL:rolleyes:

Re: My Tow Vehicle- MODS

The egr bolts on the newer ones are well known to snap off...mine didnt BUT i started hitting them and the exhaust with pb blaster a week before i even tried to crack one...

My buddy did snap one off...had to weld a nut to the broken bolt part over and over to back it out....

Maybe its just as im getting older but i Love the tought of mods....just not the busted knuckles and sore back/neck...lol

Good luck man!!..let us know how she turns out...you bit off a nice lil job there!! Lol

Been pre soaking with PB blaster for the last month. Got lucky and, didn't break off any real important bolts, mostly those small inner fender mounted item bolts. The sawzall has been my friend! LOL Should actually start putting it back together today once I finish cleaning and, painting everything in the engine bay. I'll keep ya posted.

Here is the promised up-date: I've included a before tear down pic.

Before:GEDC1694.jpg

During (with the new stainless up-pipes installed): GEDC1700.jpg

During (with the new EBVP pedestal mount, rebuilt turbo, mechanical waste gate, hi-pressure oil crossover and, split intake installed): GEDC1704.jpg

After (with everything installed): GEDC1706.jpg

It's a whole different truck! Turbo spool is instant and, continuous. I haven't tweaked the waste gate yet but it hits 22 psi and stays there. (most the old setup got was 18 psi and, it took forever to get there then, would drop once pop off occured. This stays at 22 psi. Anything above 24 psi will trip a check engine light and, start "de-fueling" the motor. I will get it set at 24 psi.) :) Throttle response is a lot quicker and smoother. The engine is much quieter at idle.

Now the bad part. You know for every action there is an opposite reaction and on a 16 y/o old diesel I guess once you fix one oil leak, it WILL start leaking someplace else. So yea, I got an oil leak. It would seem to be coming from the passenger side high pressure oil rail end plug. If I knew they had seals on them I would have replaced those too while I was in there. What a pain. Oh well, live and, learn I guess. The one bad thing S & B airbox is the battery tray and, mount. The tray is plastic, and the battery is plastic so the battery slides around. Ill glue a rubber mat on there to fix that. Also, the battery hold down set up itself is pretty shoddy. As good as the rest of it is I would have thought they could have done better. Other than that very pleased with the out come. Can't wait to get that other leak fixed and, tow with this ol" gal!:D

PS: here is a pic of the turbo I rebuilt. I'm pretty proud of it. GEDC1701.jpg (you can see the mechanical waste gate better in the pic)

Re: My Tow Vehicle- MODS

That turbo looks sweet!! ...

Man you put some wrench time in for sure...

Do it once and do it right i suppose...sucks you found a nee leak but anytime you mod that extensively there is more than likely some gremlis to shake out...

Nice job tho...im sure you will enjoy that setup immensely more!!

Thanks Iron i really appreciate that. I didn't even know those plugs were there let alone had oil seals in them. I know now! LOL Like you said I'm wondering if adding the oil cross over added to the seals failure due to increase in pressure. It is also right in front of the down pipe and, everything I can find to read on it, that's the one that fails the most often. I'll be heading to the parts store tomorrow to see if I can get one and then make a tool to remove it. I'll keep ya posted. :)

Well, the oil leak isn't where I was sure it would be. It's much worse. It appears the oil pan is leaking which means the engine will need to be pulled to be repaired. I was really hoping it was something I did or, didn't do during all the upgrades I just did. I'll be taking it to the dealer to verify that it is indeed the pan then, it will REALLY be decision making time. Hope I didn't hi-jack the thread but, I'm about sick to my stomach. :(

Just thinking out loud. Increased boost, older engine, and more blowby causing increased crankcase pressure. Hmmm is there like a PCV valve on the engine that could be not releasing the excess?

Your right on with your thinking definitely something to check out. If it's already leaking it's likely going to have to be resealed though as there is no gasket.

There isn't a conventional PCV but there is a crankcase breather ducted into the inlet of the turbo intake tube. It mounts on the DS valve cover and is filled with steel wool type filter media. I washed mine out years back but there really isn't much to clean, dried oil residue. This could be an issue if crappy oil was ran too long and it had accumulated the varnish in the wool.

To keep the oil vapor out of the air to air inter-cooler allot of 7.3 users used to flip that little dog house around and run the hose down to under the engine like a HDT road tube but that will cause bad smells at the drive through or kid pickup line at school, YMMV.

@ Sniper
What tunes are you running. I just got some done for my X by Gear Head and I like them 100% better than the canned tunes of PHP, not really fair comparison but the heavy tow tunes of PHP are not near as good in the transmission area as they could be.
