Trail-air Hitch Hitting Side of Truck Box

That is some great work. I cut my end of the frame awhile back and it has been okay for clearance with the retrax rails. When I was cutting, I looked at the idea to move the pin back, however I worried that the tailgate would hit the coach when hitching up. How much clearance do you have now at this point. I can see how easy it would be to poke a hole with the gate into the front of the camper.

I never thought to measure it, but it wasnt so close that I was worried. I am guessing here so take this with a grain of salt, I would say 8-10" if I backed square.

So she would hit if you made a turn with the gate down or if you needed to hitch up while at an angle?

There is an old saying that if there is a will, there is a way! You found a way but most of us do not have the ability to do this. I do like the way you think though!
