Travel Plans to Hawaii

Just a tip to those of you who plan to travel to Hawaii (Big Island) in the future. Unless you are a participant in the Ironman Triathalon Championship, do not schedule your trip the second week of October. 1900 participants with many more spectators and most of the roads in and around Kailua-Kona are closed this weekend.

Glad I made all of our reservations in February. A week before the event there were no rental cars available at any vendor unless you wanted to pay $1400- $1700/week plus tax for a Suburban or Hummer. The Hertz website would not recognize my confirmation number. I talked to the manager at Hertz when we arrived and he honored my $19/day rate and told me that everything was sold out.

We haven't seen any Heartlands. Where are you guys.

Since we can't go to town to look around, I think I'll have another mai-tai.

Did they finally get the bridge built? Are there any PA campgrounds on the way? How about rest areas & fuel on the bridge? :)

We have been to Maui many times. The only "RV" I have ever seen is a Volkwagen Westfalia, They are nice to camp at the surfing beaches. Trace

I think that bridge is being built according to an email I received a couple of days ago.
