I added two sites for Camping World to use as displays for a Landmark and a Bighorn.

I spoke with Ray Robinson at the RV show yesterday and made him a reservation for one of the cabins, so he will be here for the rally.

I also spoke to a friend of mind who owns the Master Hitch http://www.masterhitch.com/ about coming to the rally to give a talk/question and answer session on Saturday afternoon. Please give some feedback about this if you are interested in this.

I have heard from EVDO Alex about coming again, but he has another obligation for this date.

Jay, I am interested in some type of step to make it easier to access the front section of the truck bed on my Cheby Duuuly. They have a "Ranch Step" on their website but it says it's for Ford/Dodge. It does mention Chevys in the description though. Do you anticipate these folks offering any discounts or having accessories available ?

Ray,

When you open the Ranch Hand Step link, there are 2 thumbnails in the upper left. The bottom one is for Chevy/GMC. Instead of round holes it has diamond holes.

Jim and Sina, I will add you to our list. Jim it was good to see you again at the RV show.

Ray, I'll check on any discounts from Master Hitch. They are a great company and good to do business with.

I met Richard Jagiello at the Heartland luncheon in McAllen. He is a retired Detroit Mich. police officer, so we have something in common. He will be attending also.

I had a PM from Dick and Gayle Savoie, who have called the park and made a reservation.

Ray,

I too have been looking for a step of some kind to access the front of the cargo box. I don't have a Cheby but found a step that might work for those "other than Blue Oval" trucks with some modification.

The Carr Tool Box Step clamps around the frame so it may work for other than Super Duty models. The distance from frame to outside of sheetmetal may be the difference. Here are some links:

Carr website (http://www.carr.com/store/carrtoolboxstep.asp)

Exploded View (http://www.carr.com/uploads/instructions/171001.pdf) (If you wish to have something fabricated to work)

Best price I have found (http://www.buyautotruckaccessories.com/product.cfm/cf-bin/pn.carr-tool-box-steps/) (plug in 2008 Ford Full size pickup. only Super Duty comes up.)

Bully has a swing out step but I have read that it won't work with duallys. they don't say why not though.

Good luck in the search.

I got some news from Melissa at the park today. She said "I currently I have 27 sites on hold for you for April 3rd to April 5thI have some premium sites open if anyone wants to pay the additional $10 to be in those sites. I also have a few more standard sites open as well but they are not within the group", so if anyone wants one of the premium sites or if we go over our number of sites, we can still add folks as necessary.

First off I just canít wait. I need a break! Second is there going to be pot luck????????? J
I do plan on bring a landmark and a bighorn for me and another person to say in. I also will be bring some big gifts this time (but you will have to wait and see what the gifts are wink wink). Also I plan on bring a tech out again. We will try to get to everyone but I can not promise we will. Please donít forget that the tech will only be able to do miner repairs there and have limited supplies and tools with him. Thank you for understanding.

See you soon!

P.S.

POT LUCK! POT LUCK! POT LUCK! J
The best cooks I have found at any rally so far are by far at the Heartland Rallies.

Joe,
A potluck dinner sounds good to me, but I would like to hear from some others before we commit to this. Like you, we've always had great food at our Heartland rallies and we always have plenty of food for everyone to get plenty to eat.

Jim, we are leaving for Albuquerque the week after the Heartland rally. Tom and Judy are also going, so maybe we can make a Heartland convoy out of it to THE RALLY. We will be staying at the High Desert RV Park just outside of town.

Jay when you can please give me a call on my cell. I would like to see if you would like someone from Camping World to come and talk about the new toys that have came out. There is some new Satellite that have came out with HD and internet and really cool alarm system that will text you when your RV temp get out of whack so all your pets will be ok or sound off if anyone trays to break in, and there easy to install and cheap. I love my toys so was thinking it might be cool to have there to show and talk about.

Hello everyone

I just wanted to give everyone a quick update what Camping world has put together with Jay. First off as I’m sure many of you have seen already that your favorite Camping world employee will be joining you (ME). Ok just kidding but I will be there. Second I will be bringing a tech out for Friday and Saturday again please remember he will be limited in what he can do because of time, parts, and tools. We will do our best to get everything done that we can. I think with two days this time instead of one will make it a little bit easier. On Saturday I will also have a manager from Service joining me to talk to everyone about any needs, wants, complaints, or my favorite - at a boys. For Saturdays breakfast Ray and Heartland have agree to pay from the food and I have a professional chef coming to cook it for everyone. It should turn out to be a very nice breakfast. Also Saturday after breakfast I will have a manger from the Camping World retail parts, Accessories (http://www.campingworld.com/category/rv-awnings-accessories/363), and install coming in to set up a class on a few different things. They do plan on covering what they have seen going wrong with RVs in general and what to do to prevent things from happening. They also plan on going over TVs and what all you can do with the new air waves coming out. Also plan to show off some cool new toys as well. They are going to bring some of the most common things they sale with them so you don’t have to drive all the way to us (but I think you should still make the drive some time wink wink). I’m going to bring one Bighorn and a Landmark for me and someone else to stay in but not sure what floorplans yet. They will be open if anyone wants to look at them. There will be door prizes as always and lots of cups and hats.

I will see what else I can come up with between now and then.
Joe French

P.S.

Joe G. if your coming don’t forget I’m bring the Cowboys Vs Redskins checkers game

I'll have to think about that one...with 100 rigs you will need a fairly large place to stay and room. Rayford Crossing could handle the rigs but it would take the whole park. Thousand Trails Lake Conroe could easily handle it but that is a private park, although it could be arranged. Lakeview RV Park in south Houston could handle the rigs but not sure about the meeting room. Also that on is in a bad neighborhood. Let me keep thinking. Gulf Coast in Beaumont could handle it and that is in an easy drive to the Louisiana Casinos. Let me thinks some more....

Great brainstorming Jim - thanks. You also bring up a good point - the building. We must be able to have a room that can easily accommodate 250-300. And air conditioned :)

Here are my thoughts on possible locations in Texas. The old Haven's Landing in Montgomery which is now a KOA is a prime location. They have plenty of room, rally halls, pools, hottubs, etc. but its a long way to anything from there.

I don't consider Lakeview RV Resort because of the "hood" that its located in.

Alamo Fiesta RV Resort in Boerne (pronounced bernie) is another to consider. They have over 200 full hookup sites, a good rally hall and are near San Antonio Texas for lots of activities.

The RV Ranch in Burleson is another to look at. They have over 200 sites available, rally hall(s) and near Fort Worth Texas.

Just a few to check out.

Ray, we've stayed at the RV Ranch a few times with the Texas Boomers for their annual Labor Day rally there. It is a very nice place and pretty close to Fort Worth.

Joe, we love the new trailer, it's the best one we've ever owned. Except for a squeaky step, we've found no problems at all with this new rig. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Some friends of Jim and Sheila Gratz, David and Susan Gondron, sent me an email about attending the April rally, so I've added them to the list.

We've still got a couple of spaces left, so come on down!

Havens Landing would be big enough for a national rally. They are close to historical Montgomery Texas home of the Texas Flag and a bunch of antique shops, grocery stores, several decent restaurants and it is also not far from Conroe and Tomball (via back roads).

Okay, its official, we are FULL UP!!
I have been in contact with the park and we have filled it up, and even taken Camping World's two sites from them. I talked to Joe French and he is aware that he will not have any demo units in the park unless someone cancels

Will Richard Jagiello, Jim McGee and Tom Mangum please contact the park at 281 298-8008. They need some information from you.

Another Reminder: Anyone That Must Cancel, Please Contact the Park (281 298-8008) If Notice Is Not Made Within 72 Hours, a Day's Space Rental Will Be Charged.

We had one cancellation but had a name on the waiting list to add, so we're still full. We now have more folks signed up than the first National rally, so congratulations to all. Thanks to everyone!!

Note: Anyone having only one name on the signup list should let me know their husband/wife's name so name tags can be made for all attendees.

I'm trying to work something out to still be able to display some new units for everyone to look through. I have confirmed that Camping World will be sending one of their technicians to the park on Friday and Saturday to do minor repairs. They will also be having a parts display along with an explanation of some new and exciting items being sold through CW and a service manager will be on hand to talk to us about commonly encountered problems with our rigs.

Jay - cook has already gone to bed, i forgot to ask her what she is cooking. I guess it depends on what road kill we can get along the way. Armadillo & possum is great this time of year, still cool enough so it does not spoil on the road for a few days. Kenny

With all that good food we should be able to sit at the fancy eat'n table and reach our food with the pot passers (cue sticks for the non Beverly Hillbillies fans).

Jay, You could also get the chow wagon that was at the Prevost Rally last Oct to cook all of that fine food.

There is a Good Sam's park in Sealy, bout 30 miles west of Houston, that could easily handle anything you throw at it. Cable, wireless, fairly close to shopping...generally, a nice little park.

There is an RV Park east of Houston. Bring your own gun. Everything else is either too small, or nothing but an asphalt parking lot. You'd be better off going out to the west towards San Antonio. Lots of good sized RV parks out that way. There are also several RV parks north of Houston towards Huntsville or Cleveland.

In 5 years there probably won't be any RV parks within 50 miles of Houston. The property values are too high to allow RV parks anymore. It's like towing through Manhatten to get anywhere there now.

i get tired of eating the same ole cajun stuff all the time. We just had some boudin egg rolls, talk about good. When i'm eating boiled crawfish, i always wonder what they are eating up north where the crawfish don't grow. Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Hey Kenny,,,

You might stop at Welsh, La,,, exit 54 go South 2 blocks...on the right is Cajun Tails Restaurant, small place. The have the best Cajun dinner platter, 5 different crawfish dishes, one platter will almost feed 2 people. Their crawfish pie is to die for. (Last time we were there we bought some extra and put in the freezer.) Bring a mess of that to the potluck dinner and you will be number one. Some of that good boudin sausage from the Red caboose up at Kender would be good also. Make it mild, don't think to many folks could handle the spicey.:D

jim - been there done that. Welsh is 25 miles from me. We've eaten at almost every place on i-10 from san antonio to new orleans. Next time you pass thru south la., go to jennings, la. And take the road north toward basile, la. (two exits at jennings, it is the east exit) go north toward basile about 10 miles, about the time you think you are in the middle of crawfish ponds and rice fields, and will never see civilisation again, you will find di's restaurant. They have the best boiled crawfish in louisiana. They also have a cajun band at night on the weekends.
Also "the best stop" also off of i-10 at the (i think) scott, la. Exit to the north a few miles. They have more cajun food than you will know what to do with. Stuffed pork chop, stuffed chicken, boudin, cracklins, seasonings, fresh meat, and etc. It is a typical hole in the wall butcher shop. People stop from all over the usa on i-10 and load up. Bring your ice chest.

Just a few things to do around rayford crossing campground for you early birds and newbies. Shop in old town spring is a given if you have never been.

1. Leaving the campground and heading toward i-45. At one of the red lights (richard rd.) turn right and go about 1 block on your right. country time bbq is at 25330 richard rd. Spring, tx. Small place but very good bbq.
2. Hit i-45 and head north to exit 77. Good mexican food is at lupe tortilla mex. Rest., 19437 i-45s conroe, tex. 77385.
3. Little further north is the headquarters for the women shoppers. (exit 77) sam moon is at 17941 i-45 s, shenandoah, tx. 77385. Open 9:30 - 7 pm, closed sunday.
3. Head further north to conroe, tx. If you have time to exit 91. outlets at conroe, has over 40 stores, 1111 league rd. Conroe, tx. 77303. Open 10-8, 11-6 sunday
4. Head back south toward rayford. Exit 79 on your right will be garden ridge pottery (lots more than pottery), 16778 i-45 s, conroe, tx. 77384. Open 9-10, 10-7 sunday.
5. Head south to exit 77 on your right. the woodlands mall, 1201 lake woodlands dr. The woodlands, tx. 77380. Open 10-9, 11-7 sunday. Tons of stores and many restaurants circle the mall. You can get lost easily and never come out of the woods so bring bread crumbs for a trail home.
6. Head south to exit 59 to fry's electronics, 10241 n. Freeway (i-45), houston, tx. 77037. Open 9-9, 9-7 on sunday. Huge store and tons of computer stuff, phones, appliances and etc.

Bobcat, If you're going to hit Houston after 10AM just take 59 up to 610 and around to 45 north. Traffic shouldn't be too bad. That's the route we'll be taking.

jimtoo
03-25-2009, 11:11 PM
Bob,
If you can hit Houston between 9am and 11am or 1pm and 3 pm... I would go from where you are to Tivoli then to Victoria and hit Hwy 59 to Houston to Loop 610 then around to IH 45 North to Rayford exit. This is Free.
Or if you want on the way in on Hwy 59 take the Beltway 8 (toll road) North to IH 45 and then to Rayford exit.... Last time I was on beltway with trailer is was about $13.00 for that toll road.. they go by axles..
But any time before 9am and after 4pm be prepared for lots of delays... stops and starts...

Houston rush hours are from about 6am-10am and then 12noon-130pm, and finally 330pm-630pm. The rest of the time there is just heavy traffic. If you can spend the money the toll road (Beltway 8) is the best route from 59 to Rayford Crossing. Trust the retired Houston Cop to get you through the Houston traffic the fastest way.

jayc
03-26-2009, 08:35 AM
I agree that Beltway 8 is probably the fastest way to come to Rayford but the cost and aggravation of going through the toll booths might keep me off them. I have the EZ tag, which by the way is good state-wide for toll roads, so going around the beltway is very easy.

KENNY COCHRAN
03-26-2009, 10:24 PM
I agree with the route by staying off the toll road. Driving an rv is costly on it.

Or, you can do as our employee did, she hit the toll road, got in the far left lane (for ez tag users only) and pulled up to pay the toll. They didn't have a toll booth in that lane. About that time a big truck behind them hit his horn and brakes, her husband then hit the gas and took off to avoid being hit. They figured you must pay when you get off and stayed in the ez tag lane the rest of the trip thru houston. I told her she would get a fine in the mail, but she never did. I guess they saw her louisiana plates and figured she had never been on a toll road before and let her go. True story.

jayc
03-27-2009, 04:08 AM
People do the craziest things on the toll road. Sometimes thats reason enough to stay off because of all the nuts on the road. I saw a car that was completely flattened by an 18 wheeler that couldn't stop. The car had stopped because they had been in the EZ tag lane and stopped because they didn't have the tag and were afraid of getting in trouble.

We had a great time at the spring rally. Jay and Stella did a great job as always, there is alot of behind the scenes work that goes into a rally of this size. Tx Bobcat also did a wonderful job with rally photo's( he has posted them on HOG). We are looking forward to Goshen and then the Houston fall rally.

We also had a great time at the rally. Jay and Stella did another outstanding job. Enjoyed another fine dinner with them last nice at one of the finest dining establishments in the area HOOters. Said our goodbyes this morning until next week when we will meet up again at the Good Sam Rally in New Mexico. Thanks to all for the great food and friendships.

Great Rally! Thanks to everyone making it possible. Jay, Stella, Jim, Camping World of Katy, Dean the Service Guy, de chef and Gary Wheeler of Mor Ryde. Only one regret, we didn't get around to meet all the attendee's. We're in Sikeston, MO for the night and hope to be in Rock Falls, IL for a week starting tomorrow. Travel Safe Ya'll

Like Jay pointed out - " anyone that left this place hungry must have had a tape worm". An excellent time was had by all. Thanks to Jay, Stella, Jim B and the Camper World team. They all seem to get better every rally.
