another oil change question

My dealer charges $69.99 for oil, filter, lube, 23 point inspection, and top off all fluids as needed. Fuel filter change is $85. Since I bought my truck there, I get 10% off all parts and accessories.

Do the dodges have dual fuel filters (primary/secondary) like the new Fords?

I change oil in the Diesels at 5000 miles except for the off road units. It is easy to monitor and I feel a safe way to not over extend the life of the oil.

We don't idle our road trucks a lot but when we do we have a bit of a safety factor. I watch the truck computer to see how many hours are idled but again not a lot unless it is really cold.

Now for the trucks with the round bale beds on them, they start up in the morning and idle or run all day long until dark. We change the oil on these based on months since they don't run very many miles.

The 6.7 uses a single filter also. I'm not sure about the latest Ford diesel, but the fuel filters in the previous Navistar engines were quite small. The Cummins filter is probably bigger than those 2 combined.

The fuel filter on the Ford at the engine is small. The frame mounted fuel filter is fairly good sized.

I've owned all of the big 3 diesels. While the frame mounted filter on the Ford is "fairly good sized" it doesn't come close to the Cummins in terms of filtration area.

Micron size and water passage resistance are more important that physical size. Not saying Dodge dont have you purchase a good filter from the filter manufacturer. I would have to see the specs on all of them and then you would know which is the best filter.

Sign up for a Dodge dealer website. They send me coupons for service related items. Recently I've been getting some for $49.95 for a diesel oil change up to 10 qts! No gimmicks. At first I thought, okay this is too good to be true. But it is for real. I can barely buy the oil and filter for less.They just use it as a door buster to get you in and hopefully upsell you on other recommended items. I usually get those done elsewhere, or do them myself, unless it's something that should be done by a qualified dealer

All of my Fords hold 15 quarts of oil. What does a Dodge / Cummings hold? Curious as to why just 10 quarts for the offer. Whoops, just changed the oil/filter in the 6.7 and it only takes 13 quarts. Didnt realize they dropped it down by 2 quarts.

Just changed my 6.7 and it took 13 quarts with the filter. Tech had told me 15 quarts. The ford oil comes in 5 quart jugs.

You are 1 qt over full! You can not drain, refill, start, and then check the level. The 6.7 has a closed crankcase, no venting to the outside. You have to let it set over night to check the level with cold oil in it. Fully warmed up you have to let it sit at least 15 minutes or longer before checking it. The capacity is 12 qts with filter change. If you don't remove the fill cap when draining and let drain for 15 minutes or longer, you will not get a full drain on it either.
