Campgounds around St. Louis..

Well I am plotting my route to Elkhart from Dallas. We want to stay a while in Branson and check out the shows. While doing this it looks like we will be around St. Louis for the Memorial Weekend. This is a busy holiday for weekenders so I think I will need a reservation. We found the Casino Queen RV Park, 200 S. Front St., E. St. Louis IL 62201 .

Does anyone have any comments on this park or a suggestion for another. We would like to hang around and see the arch and some of the area.

Any suggestions would be appreciated..

we looked for Jimtoo for he will be here soon there is nothing but the queen camp ground the few we found were not the best and not in a good part of town----Kathy

We stayed there once... real close to the MetroLink line. We took the shuttle from the campgrounds to the casino... walked out of the parking lot.. around the corner to the station. Once across the river it was only a short distance to the Arch... Do the Elevator to the top if you don't get clostophobic in tight places...

The Campground is to the very back end of their large parking lot. They had full hook-ups. There was a shuttle service to the Casino door... 24-hour security... if I remember correctly the casino was a good walk from the main building... down a gang-plank to the floating casino.

I retired from St. Louis 3 years ago and go back there a few times a year to visit grand kids. I will tell you there is not a great abundance of CG's there. We stay at the Belleville Mobile Home Park in Fenton when we go there. The park does not have any CG amenities but it does have good level concrete pads with full hookups. All are backin sites but most are easily accessed.
We have heard that the St. Louis RV park downtown is pretty nice for an innercity park and is convenient to most downtown attractions. And as previously mentioned the Casino Queen is across the river in East St. Louis. I dont know much about this park but it is located in a very bad area.
West of town about 25 miles in Eureka there is St. Loius KOA West and a Yoggi Bear campground. These campgrounds are usually occupied by families going to Six Flags amusement park and most likely will be full over Memorial Day weekend.

St Louis Campgrounds

We are Workampers at Yogi Bears Jellystone Park and Resort.
As mentioned it is next to Six Flags and will require reservations early.
If you have kids there is a lot to do and lots of trees.Good Choice...
We have stayed at Bellville. It is nice but in a FLOOD PLAIN.
Right next to Bellville is Covered Bridge RV Park...also in a FLOOD PLAIN.
Be careful of these two. I can tell you from experience that you might
be awakened at 2 AM telling you to hook up at get out!!!

We stayed at the Casino Queen RV Park once several years ago. The park is very nice. The Casino (and we try out alot of Casinos) is old and smells badly of cigarette smoke. The gladly took our money and the food was not that good. Be sure to carry your gun if you go out of the RV Park as the park is in a very bad neighborhood. We did go across the river and went up in the Arch. While walking back to our truck in the parking lot by the River we saw several youths on bicycles breaking into several cars. We told a Police Officer there and they caught 3 of them. Just our St. Louis experience. BTW when I was in the Army I shared a room in the barracks with 7 guys from East St. Louis and some of the stories they told of their experiences there would curl your hair. They even told me to no go to East St. Louis also as it was dangerous.

all of the folks are right except they are tiring to clean it up.The queen does have security like Marv said. I have lived 10 miles from East St. Louis for 16 years and things are getting better. The Queen is still the best camp ground in the area if you want to be close to the arch------Kathy

By the way if you want to visit St. Louis there is an RV Park in St. Charles, MO (which is close to St. Louis.) I can't remember the name but they have a restaurant there and will deliver your order right to your RV. Also St. Charles has alot of quaint shops. I will Google St Charles and see if I can find the park and then edit the name.

We stayed at Pin Oak Creek, Villa Ridge, Mo (636/451-5656). This is a GS Park, about 1 hour west of St. Louis, quiet, nice store, helpful staff and pretty reasonably priced considering the area. Went to Meramec Caverns (Jesse James hideout), the Arch in St. Louis and several other places. Robby Knievel (Evil's son) was staying there, four sites from us and pleasant to talk to.

+1 for St. Charles. Marcia and I stayed there last season and it is a very, repeat, very nice place with concrete pads. Not much in the way of landscaping though. The restaraunt is a local favorite and is very good. There is also a lot of history connected with the town and a vibrant shopping district. I recommend this park without reservation.
