Has anyone used Centramatic Balancers on their 5th wheel trailer wheels? If so, what do you think of them. Their ads look impressive. I called the company and they stated I would need the 300-318A's for the 8X6.5 hubs with a 16 inch rim.

Never had a problem balancing my wheels. I took my original equipment tires off my truck at 88,000 miles and there was still some life left in them. No shakes, no shimmy, nice even wear. Just had regular weights on them, no reason to look any further....Don

Howdy!

I run them on my MDT 5er toter 5500 Chev. And now on 4400 International. They work great and never had any problems.

For the trailer. It comes out to $200 for all four wheels. If I have to replace tires, rims, etc., the Centramatics stay with the hub...so I would never have to balance a trailer tire again.

Keep them when you trade rigs also. the last time I had a set of trailer wheels balanced it cost $80 bucks. What is it worth to have perfectly balanced tires all the time. Ice mud and snow.

So these 300-318A's are the balancers for our 8 lug trailer tires? I didn't see a listing for under $200.
When my Goodyear G-114's were installed they were filled with "equal" tire balancing compound. But, when I had a rim replaced last year the original installer no longer uses the beads.

I'm seriously considering that the next truck will have these.
The rear outer wheels on my Ford have been damaged by wheel weights. Since both sides have had flats that means both sides have had the tires off and rebalanced. The Ford DRW rear rims retail for over $700 each!

I wonder if a bead system would counteract a mechanical exterior balanceer like these.

When we picked up our trailer at Great Lakes RV Center in Elkhart I asked one of the guys where the closest tire store was and we took the trailer there when we left the dealer. They said it would take about 10oz to 12oz of wheel weights to balance all of the G114 tires or they could install 6oz of Dyna Beads for the same price. I went with the beads/compound as I did not want that much weight stuck on exterior of the wheels. So far they seem to be doing fine with the beads/compound installed. I guess time will tell.

Here is an expanded link to the prices:

The 7th listing down has the ones that fit the trailers. The truck would cost almost $400.

Well, I bought a set of four for about 227 (includes tax and shipping). I'll install them myself in a couple of weeks.

Note in the video:

When they showed the "out of balance" wheel they used no strobe.

When they showed the dynamic balancer in action they used a strobe.

Caveat Emptor

There is a reason for that which speaks loudly

A strobe illuminates an object at a regular interval and does not illuminate it in between that interval. If you tune the frequency you can make objects that are oscillating at a regular interval look as if they are not oscillating. You can freeze the motion. As they have done

The use of the strobe was not to illustrate the tire balance, it was to show the distribution of the ballast media, directly opposite the object that caused the imbalance. The strobe was used a second time to show the distribution of the media after the the object was removed. Without the strobe it was clear that the tire and wheel assembly were balanced. I'm fairly critical of snake oil, but I do not see any snake oil being sold here.

The use of the strobe was first to obscure the wobbling. Then to show the distribution.

I'm sorry, But I don't think this is a gimmick, I can see the wheel with and without the strobe, I can see the distribution of the lead weights with the imbalance, then I can see the distribution of the weights without the magnet. I can also see the wheel when the strobe is on and off. So I'm not thinking this is a gimmick. But hey, if you think its a gimmick, don't buy it.......LOL.

These devices have been around for a very long time, and debunked for a very long time. Some people want it to be true and regardless of the evidence will see what they want. The hucksters are free to practice their deception. Even here.
