My IDI was a good solid engine, very little trouble, could squeeze 22 mpg out of it on flat land running empty, just gutless without a turbo.
Stay safe Ken, Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder LOL, now that I've had a few weeks off my comic book should have caught up to me
Sadly Fords new diesel will be a v-8 as well. When will they learn to go in a straight line. I like the sheet spreader though, never heard that one before. That Cummins on the floor looks like a money pit too though!
I was sad to hear the replacement for the 6.4 was gonna be a V-8. I like a Ford truck but don't like their engine selection.
The Cummins I yanked has been a money pit. On the positive side, I can buy a set of 6 injectors for less than it costs for one Powerstroke injector and has no puterized controls and it has always been able to limp home under her own power and easy to get parts for.... so far knock on wood.
I paid $1800 for the new engine with the Fuller 5 speed tranny. When I sell my extra parts, tranny and part out the old engine I'll be able to be very close to break even or a small profit making my net cost for the swap nil
Right now it also gives me a bunch of small spare parts like a tensioner, belts, alternator, PS pump, fuel pump, injectors, turbo, Intercooler boots, clamps etc.... I can carry with me if I decide too.
Next truck will likely have a Series 60 Detroit in it. Bar none, the most dependable and fuel efficient engine I ever had in a big truck
Here's a sneek peek at a few of the trucks I'm considering purchasing for my next build.
