Hi litterhodey,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum and Family. We have a great bunch of people here with lots of information and all willing to share their knowledge if needed.

There are several reasons you may not get hot water... do you have propane and is it turned on (switch on the panel for tank levels must be on also) ?? Is your battery hooked up and charged?? If your trying the 120v you still need 12v and on most of the units there is a little switch on the outside of the water heater that you may need to turn on along with the switch inside.

Also, if the water heater is on and your getting warm water,,, the heater may be in the bypass mode...

Now,, I am wondering if you did not try it during the PDI??? That is what a PDI is for,,,, check it all out and make sure it works.

Let us know what the out come is...

As Jimtoo mentioned, your hot water heater may be in the bypass mode. If this is the first time you have used it since storage or purchase this may be the case. On the back side of your warer heater there should be an inlet and an outlet hose. There is also a hose that runs in between these other two hoses. There are valves on all 3. Close the valve on the in between hose and open the other two. If your water heater operates on both LP and electric, do not turn on the heater without there being water in the heaters tank.
Another suggestion is to ask a neighboring camper for assistance. Most folks are very helpful. Good Luck and Happy Camping!

There is a releive valve on the hot water heater. Open the outside panel for the HWH, and look for the releive valve, pull it up slightly to releive some pressure. If water comes out then you are at least getting water to the heater. I allways check this when setting up to make sure the tank is full. Then as said before check propane, if using propane make sure the little black switch on the HWH is in the off pos. Then turn on the red rocker switch on the monitoring panel. If using elec, don't turn on the red rocker switch. If using ele turn the little black switch on the HWH to on, there is a keeper pin on it you'll have to remove. Then inside the TT where the awning and slide out switches are is a red switch thats looks like a light switch. turn that on. Wait ten mins and then check the releive valve and see if your getting hot water.

Same problem when we set up our 28BHS. The unit was shipped in the bypass mode. Had to flip 3 valves and we were in business.

Good Luck and Enjoy!!

Thanks for all the suggestions. We went the night without hot water, but this morning tried rest button. Bingo!
Thanks again for the prompt suggestions. It's nice to know we are not alone.

Ok still no hot water. What position should the three valves be in? Horizontal or vertical? It sure would have been helpful for a schematic of the correct positions for running and winterizing instead of ambiguous words.

The valves are basic ball valves. The long end of the valve handle will be in line with the direction of flow with the hose. If the valve is at a 90 degree fitting, it would be turned so that the valve handle lines up with a hose. Pretty simple stuff, really... The single valve on the tubing/line in between the inlet and outlet hoses should be at a 90 degree angle to the hose, closed for normal operation.
