Water Pump

In the waste valve and hose connection compartment, there is a small rocker switch that is labeled 12v power. I always thought it would control the light in the compartment but it does not. I controls the water pump even when the switch inside is off the water pump will operate.
Any thoughts as to why this is?

To be able to use the out side shower if the pump is off. Many times I have wished I could turn my pump on without going inside. That is a nice feature.
