Considering new truck - questions about GCVWR and going over 26,000 lbs

Hello. I am considering trading my 2011 Ford Super Duty (10,000 lbs GVWR) to 2017 Ford Super Duty. I would like some advice on getting the truck with the 10,000 lbs GVWR or a 11,500 GVWR. My trailer has a GVWR of 15,500. So if I go with the 11,500 version of the Super Duty then I am over the...

Update - 07/18/2015 The truck was ready this past Tuesday. I flew to Denver (from Austin) on Thursday night and picked it up at 7:00am Friday (yesterday) morning. Everything was covered 100% by warranty. I submitted all my travel expenses, etc. to Ford and should get reimbursed for that...

Catastrophic truck failure while on vacation....

UPDATE - 07/12/2015 I spoke with my service advisor at Longmont Ford on Friday afternoon. The diesel tech had finished the HPFS replacement and was doing the final checks before putting fuel in it for the first time and firing it up. He indicated it should be ready for pickup next week. I asked...

Thanks John! I appreciate the offer. I will just catch cab or use Uber to get a ride from the airport to Longmont. From there it is easy, just get the truck then go up to Estes Park and get the trailer, then make the long trek home. -Chris

Catastrophic truck failure while on vacation....

Thanks Keith and Kim. I love planning the trips almost as much as going on the trip. You know, this entire problem has just taught me to "chill". I have been truly blessed by the good Lord and this was just a small hiccup in the grand scheme of things. I can see so many "good" things from...

Frustration with Dish Tailgater and my Big Country 3650RL

Got it -Thanks. I appreciate the tip. That splice is probably the culprit. I replaced the splice connector at the the ODC and at the entertainment center and things got better but not 100%. I suspect that last splice is the issue. I used high quality 3GHz capable splices. -Chris

Frustration with Dish Tailgater and my Big Country 3650RL

Thanks. So there is splice connector it sounds like... Is that splice connector inside the slide or inside the frame? (Before I start ripping crap out, I wanted to be sure...) Sounds like I will have to remove the under coating to get to the inside of the frame... -Chris

Frustration with Dish Tailgater and my Big Country 3650RL

Thank you for this information - very helpful. I do have a clarification question... I had assumed that it was one single run of able from the connection from the UDC down the frame and into the entertainment center. It sounds like from your description that this is not true. Please...

Frustration with Dish Tailgater and my Big Country 3650RL

Well, I just tightened the connections behind the UDC panel and the wall plug near the entertainment center. No change - still no signal. I need to get a toner now and check out the cable.... Arggg! Shotty work by Heartland - this is easy to do at the factory. -Chris

Frustration with Dish Tailgater and my Big Country 3650RL

We have a 2015 Big Country 3650RL which we love. We recently a Dish Tailgater satellite TV system. My BC has 4 coax ports on the Universal Docking Center (UDC). The 3rd port from the left is labeled Living Room. So I attach the coax cable to the external antenna / dish and to the 3rd coax...

    New Hitch

Well, I finally bit the bullet and ordered a new 5th wheel hitch. I went with the B&W Patriot 16K (RVK3200). I have not been impressed with my Reese 16K slider. It has become so loose and makes so much noise going down the road. I did get five years of use out of it. I should be installing...

Austin, TX to Black Hills, South Dakota

John, Thanks for the info, tips and photos. I am not worried about fuel so much as I replaced the OEM fuel tank on my Ford Super Duty with a 50 gallon Titan tank. I typically average between 10 and 11 MPG so it is easily a 450 to 500 mile range - basically the maximum amount I would ever...

    How far is too far?

We can do 500 miles fairly easy. My truck and trailer are dream to drive so no issues there. The main issue is my wife wanting to "get out", plus my buttocks get pretty tired. <grin> Longest run we have done was back at Christmas going from Austin, Texas to Willacoochee, Georgia to try to...

Stupid question! The specification sheet for my 3650RL says it is 12 feet 11 inches tall. Can some one clarify if this includes the front A/C unit? Since the front A/C comes standard, I assume it does. So my assumption is this height measurement is with the front A/C unhooked and leveled...

I want a new GPS system for Christmas but I need to decide which one. I have an 8 year old Garmin with a 4 inch screen that has begun to act a little flakey (reboots from time to time). I would like the new GPS to have a 6 or 7 inch screen. Any recommendations? -Chris
