Awning end seam has plastic cable coming out-see pictures

Awning end seam has plastic "cable" coming out of seam at edge of awning-see pictures. I am not sure if I can push it back in and IF I can, can I reattach it? Anyone else had this happen? I am thinking of just pulling it out and being done with it. It comes out a little bit more each time I put the awning out and in. Any advice? Not sure of its purpose.

I think that this is just to keep the end hem shape. As long as this filler plastic line is, I doubt you can get it stuffed back down the hem. Short of buying a new awning cover, I would snip the protruding end off and seal that hem end/line area with super glue. Let the glue dry overnight before rolling up the awning.

I wonder IF it was ever connected to anything at the top or bottom, or just hanging out in that seam? I will have to look at the other ends of the awnings to see what is happening there.
