Best Route Around St. Louis1

We will be travelling from Springfield, MO to Springfield, IL and I am looking for a little route advice from someone familiar with the city, traffic and road conditions around St. Louis.

Google Maps shows taking I44 to St. Louis but then it routes me North on S Kings Highway to Hwy 40 then onto I64 to I55.

So looking at the Google Maps I have come up with 3 potential routes:
1) I44 to Hwy 40 to I64 to I55
2) I44 to I55 then N to I55/70 on to I55
3) I44 to I270 North around St. Louis to I55

I am leaning toward option #3 but wondered if there is one way be
tter than the others?
We are 59 ft total length, 5th wheel and Freightliner.

Thank you for any recommendations.

Take 44 to 270 North to I-55
Try to time it to avoid rush hour . You should be ok hitting 270 after nine am and before 3pm.

Last month we did the same trip from Springfield to Springfield.
I chose to take I-44 to I-270 to I-255 then get back on I-55.
It was actually a pretty good route.

Peace
Dave

Take 44 N to exit 276 I-270 N toward Chicago
Take I 270 N to exit 12 I-64E toward St. Louis
I-55 joins I-64 downtown you will not need to exit again until you are out of the metropolitan area.

here is a link to the proposed route https://goo.gl/yd2IRg

I'm fairly familiar with the St Louis area having lived in MO most of my life and have family in the area. Take 44 to 270 N all the way around St Louis into Illinois and pick up 55. I would avoid downtown St Louis and plan your trip to avoid rush hour, if possible, as others have said. 270 isn't fun during rush hour.

This is the route I would recommend. Roads are good with much less traffic than taking 270 N around the city.
